Shortly after SAP released SAP Master Data Governance 9.2 for customers and partners, Utopia Inc., a certified SAP development partner, has released their compatible version of
SAP MDG, Enterprise Asset Management extension 9.2 together with the
SAP Asset Information Workbench 3.0.
Both products are also
compatible with SAP S/4HANA 1809 and bring vast improvements regarding integration and process coverage. These include enhancements to the core data model and improved functionality for the Utilities and Defense industries, Bill of Material, Fleet Management and many more.
Three major innovation categories must be highlighted in particular:
- The first is Consolidation and Mass Processing for Equipment, Functional Location and Bill of Material which also includes highly scaleable initial load.
- Second – and for some live key customers even more important – Utopia Inc. has now added process integration for capturing serialized objects and installation & dismantling of technical objects (aka IE4N including iPPE and configuration control), available both for an MDG hub deployment scenario and for co-deployment of MDG on top of customers’ operational ERP system – SAP S/4HANA or SAP ECC 6.0 EhP8!
- The third key innovation is the technical integration to SAP Asset Information Network (AIN) and the SAP Geo-Enabling Framework (GEF), both allowing for new paradigms & processes when dealing with technical assets - supporting customers on their journey to the Intelligent Enterprise.
In addition, significant improvements have been made to the
Asset Information Workbench, allowing larger and more complex technical objects and their hierarchies to be handled even more intuitively, thus saving time and effort while ensuring the full audit trail of master data change and creation.

This was probably the largest development and scope increase that our prime MDG development partner has delivered since the initial release back in 2014. They delivered in time and quality. I am especially happy that they also adopted the Consolidation and Mass Processing capabilities of MDG to allow customers in asset-intensive industries to effiently use these FIORI-based applications. This allows for even faster ROI and also helps to prepare and simplify the move of ECC customers to an S/4HANA environment.
We are jointly working on the release of the SAP MDG, Retail and Fashion Management extension by Utopia for SAP S/4HANA 1809 as well. Will share an update once certified and released.
