The W3C and OpenSocial Foundation held a joint workshop in San Francisco in August on Social Standards: The Future of Bsiness.  The goal of the workshop was to bring together business and technical folks engaged in the social space for the purpose of exploring opportunities to move the concept of social business forward and to identify opportunities to collaborate on standards and activities related to this space.

By any measure, the workshop was a resounding success.  over 70 individuals from more than 50 companies came together in the workshop and included a broad cross section of the social space.  SAP was of course present as we are recognized leaders in the concept of Social Business.  It is clear fro the proceedings that SAP JAM's unique perspective of leveraging social to increase productivity and efficiency in all aspects of business activity is rapidly gaining consensus as the way to merge the two.

A number of points of consensus emerged, including agreement to start new activities in W3C around this topic and to develop both recommendation track deliverables as well as non-normative deliverables, closer alignment between W3C and OpenSocial, SocialBusiness Architecture document, common data formats, Property Graph activity, and federation of social profiles.
