Data is fascinating. It's a single concept that morphs into so many different meanings. Data can be composed of speed, temperature, revenue, sales, and it can mean different things when put together. This is the case where 1+1=3.

We have always had data, since the dawn of times, but how we utilize it within the enterprise is changing. With the advancements in hardware, cloud computing and algorithms, we begun moving from simple reports to advanced and predictive analytics, and then to machine learning and data science for business insights and process automation.

Intelligent technologies, relying on ML/AI, are the basic machinery for the Intelligent Enterprise. They allow complex business process automation, anticipation of customer needs and discovery of new business models. Digital startups are already born making use of these technologies, and if today's companies want to compete with them and stay relevant, it's essential that they embark on a data journey and a digital transformation.

SAP has launched intelligent and cloud-native products that are designed to help our customers thrive as intelligent enterprises:

  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud: the cornerstone of an Intelligent Enterprise, linking all the dots and enabling intelligence on business processes end-to-end

  • SAP Data Intelligence: providing extensive data orchestration capabilities, connections to a wide range of industry products and scaling AI and Data Science for the entire enterprise

  • SAP Data Warehouse Cloud: business ready Data Warehouse on the cloud, enabling self-service and analytics for end-users

  • SAP HANA Cloud Services (est. 2020): full power of SAP HANA on the cloud, connecting the entire data landscape

If intelligent technologies are the basic machinery for the Intelligent Enterprise, then data is its fuel. And the machinery will only operate as good as the fuel it uses.

Hence, a good data strategy, management, orchestration and discovery are essential to maintain good data quality throughout the organization, avoiding silos, duplication and inconsistencies.

Over the course of the next few months I'll be writing on a few concepts, technologies and strategies that are required to help our SAP customers run even better as an Intelligent Enterprise.

On the first installment I'll talk about DataOps. You can read the article here.

See you next time!
