Corporate reference data such as codes for countries/languages, material type, currency code, plant, location, payment conditions, commodity codes, etc. also require a governed and harmonized definition across a corporate group. For example, if a company operates multiple different local ERP clients, country codes are an entity that plays a major role. Codes may change over time, but are not maintained synchronously in all clients, or new countries may be added with preliminary codes.
Enterprises that have a governed process in place for managing reference data, can avoid breakdowns across distributed business processes, foster corporate best-practice and enable trusted company-wide reporting.
SAP Master Data Governance can complement recommended SAP processes and tools to transport reference data (SAP Solution Manager) by adding a true governance process:
- MDG brings front end governance and controls to this process
- Allows you to create data for and distribute to both SAP and Non-SAP systems
- Enrich content above and beyond the data stored in your transactional systems in the MDG data model
- Customers are live with governing data using this approach
For details, see the
presentation about governing reference data based on the MDG Framework's custom objects.
There is also an SAP Certified Partner solution available for
governing reference data.
