European Space Agency App Camp Barcelona

Powered by SAP HANA Cloud Platform - Mobile World Congress 2015

On December 1, 2014, SAP University Alliances launched the ESA App Camp Barcelona sponsored by SAP. It is a huge App development competition utilizing the power of the SAP HANA Cloud Platform and its built-in geospatial functionality to process huge amounts of earth observation (EO) data collected by the European Space Agency’s (ESA) new satellite fleet and data network.

In the contest, students, researchers and startups will vie to come up with the best business plans to monetize the data, and thus develop their entrepreneurship skills in 6 pre-selection events across Europe. They will then realize their business and app concepts with the SAP HANA Cloud Platform and compete against each other in a 3 and a half day Hackathon at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona.

The winners will be honored on the SAP stage, receive prizes, and have an opportunity to be considered for the SAP Startup Focus Program and the ESA Business Incubation Network.

The participants will work on challenges developed with the support of SAP Industries like Mill Products & Mining or Automotive, and which also cover important technology trends like Internet of Things, Predictive Maintenance, Precision Farming, and Crowdsourcing.

The contest is supported by the HANA Development Organization, HANA Geospatial Team, HCP Team and Developer Marketing.

Registration for the contest is open from December 1, 2014 till January 19, 2015. Pre-selection Appathons will be held January 24/25, 2015 at the following
locations:

  • ESA Broker Turku Science Park, Finland
  • ESA BIC Bavaria, Germany
  • ESA BIC Lazio, Italy
  • ESA BIC Noordwijk, Netherlands
  • ESA BIC Portugal, Portugal
  • ESA BIC Harwell & Catapul, UK
