There have been several exciting events in year 2017 concerning the Cloud Foundry technology and few more are in the making.  This is a great time for the developer community to easily catch up on this exciting technology by attending an event in your own region.

Cloud Foundry environment in SAP Cloud Platform was announced as Generally Available at SAPPHIRENOW in May 2017. With its support for agile innovation using modern technologies and options for multi-cloud deployment, there has been a lot of excitement around this offering.

Roughly a month later in Jun 2017, SAP provided Platinum sponsorship and hosted an entire track at the Cloud Foundry Summit event in Silicon Valley, California.  There were numerous detailed presentations and a stellar keynote by Bjoern Goerke, CTO of SAP, describing SAP’s commitment and contributions to the Cloud Foundry technology.

Now, taking this train further, for SAP TechEd conference in Las Vegas (Sep 25 – 29, 2017), we have planned a comprehensive agenda on topics related to Cloud Foundry environment in SAP Cloud Platform via a series of lectures, hands-on workshops and CodeJam sessions. Meanwhile, SAP also hosted a Cloud Foundry Day in Bangalore on Sep 2, 2017, a community event for driving further collaboration among local participants from SAP and other companies around the Cloud Foundry technology.

Wait …that’s not all. In fact, I haven’t yet really come to the main point of this blog!

On Oct 11/12, 2017, in Basel, Switzerland, there will be the European version of Cloud Foundry Summit. As a  Platinum Sponsor of this event, SAP is driving a track, which is aptly titled as – Cloud Foundry at Scale. What does this title really mean? If you are following the conversations in the industry about Cloud maturity models, you will note that the cloud solutions in their initial stages can be cloud-friendly or cloud-ready and can be simple adaptations of their on-premise versions. However, for the higher levels of cloud maturity (cloud-resiliency and cloud-native), it is imperative for the cloud solutions to withstand the rigor of enterprise scale -- not just in terms of performance but also from the perspective of other enterprise qualities like security, traceability, availability and commercialization.   These aspects have been the primary focus of SAP’s contributions to the Cloud Foundry technology and you will see that also reflected in the agenda of SAP sponsored track at the Cloud Foundry Summit in Basel.

For example, here are the titles and links to some of the sessions with SAP speakers at this event:

It is exciting to see several SAP partners (e.g. Microsoft, HCL, Keytree and Mendix) also speaking at the event and sharing their experiences with Cloud Foundry technology as well as SAP Cloud Platform. In fact, you will notice that about 50% sessions in the SAP sponsored track (shaped jointly by SAP and Anynines) are from non-SAP speakers.

In a nutshell, there are several ways to engage and learn about the Cloud Foundry technology and its support in the SAP Cloud Platform, whether you are attending any of the SAP TechEd events (in Las Vegas, Barcelona and Bangalore) or the Cloud Foundry Summit in Basel, Switzerland. Of course, we are always open to more ideas for reaching out to our developer community, so please feel free to chime in ...
