This was a session from this past week's ASUG Annual Conference. These are my notes as I heard them and do not necessarily represent SAP's.

On Figure 1, Eric Schemer, SAP, said there are no silos and with interoperability SAP is "one team".

Figure 2 shows the positioning slide, where SAP Design Studio fits to "build engaging application experiences".

On Figure 3, Eric explained you can build OLAP ad hoc applications with Design Studio, especially in version 1.5

Figure 4 shows the product description. On this slide, Eric said SAP Design Studio has over 5K customers, with 150 new customers every month.

Most feature rich now for Design Studio is the BI platform. SAP HANA is a key platform. SAP has invested in NetWeaver, but it is “not a going forward investment”

Parallel queries being executed in Design Studio
SAP is investing in the universe, which is an ongoing journey. In version 1.5 it will open up to all databases that UNX supports. It will still not support multi source universes in 1.5. Version 1.6 will allow 20K records. Also with 1.5 SAP is shipping out more templates for self-service visualization for end users.

Version 1.5 is not completely offline yet, but working on that for the future
You can build data bound components without scripting
Several standard apps for data exploration and self-service

Figure 8 please note the side effects and session management in the backend. This is something to discuss with your SAP Basis team before undertaking.

On this we saw a demo of this capability. It can use Open Street Maps "out of the box".

This type of application can be handed to any user
Also shown in Figure 10 is a Lumira-like chart picker
