SAP Fiori for Android: Next Chapter in Enterprise Mobile Design

Ever since the launch of the first smartphone, mobile technology has had a profound impact on our daily lives. Fueled by digital transformation and innovation initiatives, the market demand for mobile continues to be strong. Leveraging the power of mobile and combining it with our deep understanding of enterprise user experience with SAP Fiori and cutting-edge capabilities of SAP Cloud Platform, our vision is to deliver great mobile work experience for all enterprise customers. The two prominent mobile OS platforms, iOS and Android, together hold more than 98% of global mobile operating system market share in both consumer and enterprise markets reports Gartner. So, to cover the mobile market, the SAP Fiori experience needs to be extended for both iOS and Android.

In 2016, SAP Design started the journey to revolutionize the mobile workplace by extending SAP Fiori design language for the iOS platform. And, now in 2018, we are extending the SAP Fiori design language for the Android platform. Android has a large share of global mobile operating system market share and bringing SAP Fiori user experience for Android platform will make a huge difference for our customers. SAP Fiori for Android design language will follow the design philosophies of SAP Fiori along with Material design philosophy of Android to ensure a consistent and seamless enterprise UX across different channels like tablets, smartphones, and web.

What is SAP Fiori for Android Design Language?

SAP Fiori provides a consistent and holistic user experience for SAP software while Material Design focuses on aspects, such as context, transitions, and physics by taking inspiration from real life materials for how components are arranged on the user interface. As a flavor of SAP Fiori, SAP Fiori for Android follows the same well- known SAP Fiori principles: role-based, adaptive, simple, coherent, and delightful.

Along with the SAP Fiori for Android design language, SAP is also delivering a new software development kit (SDK) built with a modern mobile architecture of Android and fully leveraging capabilities of SAP Cloud Platform, mobile card kit support for Android, a mobile development kit support, and tools to build custom apps and standard SAP mobile apps for Android.
