Hello,
I've read a lot of posts asking if the Oracle compression was worth it, and asking for some feedback.
Here are a few information about it.
The Oracle compression feature was activated on an SAP ECC 6.0 EHP3.
1. Global database space savings
The database used space was reduced as follows :
The space used by the datafiles on disks is 35% less
The net data volume used is 46% less.
2. Focus on of the main database objects for this specific customer
We had identified the following database objects to be some of the main ones accessed / used:
COEP, COSB, COSS, COSP, FAGLFLEXA, CE41000, CE11000, JEST, SRRELROLES, VBFA, CKMLPRKEKO, CKMLPRKEPH. These tables and related indexes were compressed.
Here are the results in terms of space savings for these objects:
So through these figures we can see taht the Oracle Advanced compression was really useful in terms of space savings.
In the next part, i'll give some feedback about overall runtime and some transactions runtime.
