It is my pleasure to introduce Eric Toft, of General Mills, who is presenting Case Study: Monitoring SAP HANA in SAP Solution Manager 7.1 at General Mills at an ASUG Session at SAP TechEd Las Vegas.
First, get to know Eric:
About Me
I am a senior member of the General Mills SAP Basis team. We have responsibilities for system health, maintenance/upgrades, support and working with 3rd party systems and peripherals interfacing with SAP. I started with General Mills in 2000 in a Microsoft development capacity, left the company for 4 years, working for the University of Michigan Health System, then "boomeranged" back to General Mills, finding a spot back in the Microsoft development area. I quickly realized that I wanted a pretty significant technology change and new challenges. I joined the General Mills SAP Basis team without ever having logged into SAP or working in a Unix/Linux environment. The last 4 years have been very challenging, as I've had the opportunity to work on such projects as Unicode migrations, Enhancement Pack and Support Pack upgrades, HANA and SLT, Solution Manager, along with many deep-dive troubleshooting efforts. Our team is very strong and it's not a stretch to say I learn something every day.
Hobbies
I'm married with a 5 year old boy and 3 year old girl. They occupy almost all of my personal time. Spring (when we have one), Summer and Fall are our favorite seasons. We spend a lot of time outdoors playing sports, going to parks and running off energy! Outside of family time, I enjoy spending time on the golf course, my Grandpa’s newly restored boat and beer brewing. We are also avid University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Football fans and have season tickets. Go Gophers!
TechEd
I enjoy going to TechEd and getting a little deeper into technology. I've attended multiple ASUG conferences and spoke at TechEd a few years back. I'm glad that General Mills is very supportive of these activities and is willing to let employees share learnings that can be very useful to other companies in similar situations. I’m also looking forward to networking with other Basis teams that have implemented HANA and/or Solution Manager.
About Eric's Session:
Case Study – Monitoring SAP HANA in SAP Solution Manager 7.1 at General Mills
Come and learn about General Mills’ incorporation of SAP HANA into SAP Solution Manager 7.1 from the SAP Basis team members that did the implementation. We will outline the process, architecture, important technology pieces, and review challenges encountered during implementation and the solutions designed. Additionally, we will cover the process for system landscape directory (SLD) registration, managed system set-up, technical monitoring, root cause analysis, and EarlyWatch Alerting, including our understanding and design for the all-important host agents and diagnostic agents. Finally, we will talk about the tools we use to do monitoring and some cool mobility and desktop applications we’ve analyzed.
All great photos supplied by Eric. I thank him for sharing his story. Come and meet him at his session ITM 235 Case Study – Monitoring SAP HANA in SAP Solution Manager 7.1 at General Mills in Las Vegas next month.
