Our Data Story

In our lecture Planning and Using Data Warehouse Systems we received the task of telling an awesome data story for the SAP Data Geek Challenge. We had many ideas for stories that could be told like analysing the rent in Berlin compared to wage development. With every story we experienced that the data we analysed did not match our hypothesis and therefore tells a totally different and more diverse story, compared to the assumptions we had in the first place.

We realised we had to change our approach. Now we were looking for awesome and complete data sets rather than telling the story we thought of in the first place. We found awesome data on eurostat from the European Commission about many different detailed topics. This was the perfect starting point for our story:

19-year-old Emma from Spain just finished school and is thinking about what to do with her life. All her friends talk about going abroad and the endless possibilities linked to that. Emma isn't sure about whether this is completely true and a wise choice. Being a small data geek she decides to get the data about population, education and unemployment of her country and some other countries to compare to. This should give an her an impression of her own country compared to other countries.
