I just made this simple analysis using SAP Lumira to let people know about the Literacy rates in India. I used SAP Lumira to analyze the Literacy rates in India based on data for years 1991, 2001 and 2011 and also analyzed the Female education ratio for the year 2009 and 2010. For this, I have used the data available publicly from the site .

The dataset contained literacy rates for various states and union territories of India for years 1991, 2001 and 2011 along with Female students joined school for the year 2009 and 2010 as shown below:

I hope this analysis will answer the below queries:

1. How is the Literacy rate is changing in past 3 decades for each State/Union territory?

2. State/Union territory wise, how is the literacy rate in 2001?

3. State/Union territory wise Female education ratio in the year 2009 and 2010.

SAP Lumira helped me to find the answers to the above questions and hope it will help us to get the 100% literacy in India for the coming years.

1. State/Union territory wise Literacy Growth

In the above image, I have plotted a line chart with Literacy in 1991, 2001, and 2011 in Y-axis and State/Union Territory in X-axis. From this, it is clear that Kerala has the highest literacy rate in all the 3 decades. Next is Lakshadweep. And the least number of literacy rate is in Bihar. This chart gives clear comparison of literacy rates between different states. Also it tells which states have higher improvements in literacy and in which states more efforts are needed to increase the level of literacy.

2. State wise Literacy rate in 2001

From the above image it is clear that, For the year 2001; Kerala has the highest literacy rate of 90.86% followed by Mizoram with 88.8%. And Bihar has the lowest literacy rate 47% followed by Jammu and Kashmir with 55.52%.

3. Female Education Ratio for the year 2009 and 2010

I have plotted the bar chart using Female education ratio for the year 2009 and 2010 on Y-axis and State/Union Territory in X-axis. We can see that Sikkim and Meghalaya respectively has the highest number of female education ratio. And Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan has the lowest ratio.

Even though literacy rate is increasing in all the states of India in last 3 decades, there are still many States/Union Territory were literacy rate is very less compared with other states. It shows that, we still have to work a lot to make our country 100% literacy country. I hope this analysis using SAP Lumira will give idea of literacy rate of the country and find the ways to increase this rate.
