Hi folks !!!
Hope you have a happy learning time during lock down
🙂
Recently I was exploring several areas related to SAP DWC which is cloud based first enterprise ready data warehouse product that unites all your data sources in one solution.
For more information check this link (
Introduction to SAP DWC).
Then I was wondering how I can connect it with my existing ECC with non HANA database as a source to do modelling out of it.
In my case I have MSSQL database system (to check database, login to your SAP system then go to system and then click on status to know about underlined database for you SAP system)
For my scenario, I have used extractor called accounts payable: Line Items or
0FI_AP_4, which is delta enabled data source which provides accounts payable accounting line items from tables BSIK (open items) and BSAK (cleared items) in the R/3 source system.
First check whether your data source contains records or not, for this go to t-code
RSA3 and click on extraction to know number of records in data-source
RSA3 Screenshot:
Note: - It’s better if the version of your SAP system should be 7.3 and above to get access in SAP DWC.
Once it is confirmed that records are available in the SAP ECC side, we can go to SAP DWC login.
So guys we are in SAP data warehouse page which will look something like below.
Configuration steps
So the first step in the SAP DWC is to create agent communication or we call it
DP agent.
What is DP agent ?
It hosts all SAP HANA smart data integration Adapters and acts as the communication interface between HANA, on which the
SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is built.
For configuring DP agent follow this link.
DP agent step by step.
Once it is configured, go to administration and under data provisioning check for the connection.
The next step would be check your connection of your ECC system to your SAP DWC, for this go to
Space management and under connections check your system (in my case it is EBT-150) then click on validate connection.
-
Next create connection
To create connection go to Space management and under connection click on
add connection/create connection.
In my case it is
SAP ABAP.
Next click on pick name and connection by providing business name and technical name.
Now in
enter connection properties provide all the details of connection details and SAP credentials.
Modelling steps – Creation of graphical view and stories.
Step 1.
Create space : once the user is created, you have to create a space that is the Virtual workspace where the data models and stories are stored.
To do this, go to
space management, and click the
+ icon and assign a Name and ID I have given it as DW.
Step 3.
Create graphical views
Create the graphical view, that will be the basis of your story. for this, go to the data builder and click new graphical view
Step 3
Check for data source 0FI_AP_4 in connection under data view
Here in the above screen shot we can see that our system (
EBT-150) is available for modelling or in DWC terms available for creation of
graphical view.
To check data source, which you want to use expand on
system(EBT-150), then expand
extractors ,then expand
SAPI, under it search for your data source which is
0FI_AP_4, or else you can directly search for your data-source.
Step 4 : Creation of Graphical view:
For my business scenario I have created a simple view called
AP line item also keep in mind that to make it available for stories, we should go for view type
analytical dataset and switch on
allow consumption
Step 5 Creation of stories
Q What is stories?
Answer: Stories are where your data comes to life with
powerful data visualizations.Charts, graphs, tables, and other visual elements are arranged to tell the story of your business or organization and help you discover insights hidden within your data.
To create stories go to story builder and click on create story
next select your analytical data set or model that you have created
In the last step use your visualization skill to create your stories.
SAP DWC offers a lot of option for stories creation like charts, geo map, table, image, shape, text.
I have created a story based on charts which will show the trends for credit and debit amount for all company code.
Important SAP Note which can be required during configuration with ECC systems are
SAP Note 2847665
SAP Note 2523362
SAP Note 2854781
That’s all from my side, make full advantage of lock down and upgrade with multiple skills.
STAY SAFE, STAY HEALTHY .
