Introduction
This blog states how to reinstall Business Objects Platform tools 4.1 after downgrading from 4.1 and how to overcome the “Assertion failed” error.

I have tried downgrading Business Objects Platform Client Tools from 4.2 SP06 to 4.1 SP05.
After successful uninstallation, I attempted to reinstall Business Object 4.1 SP05 but unable to perform operation since I was getting “Assertion failed!” error.
Resolution
This error can be avoided by doing the following
- Uninstall all Business Object tools and patches installed including Xcelsius
- Clear all registries after successful uninstallation and manually delete “Program files (X86)/SAP Business Objects” folder
- If you have installed SAP - Analysis for Office Excel add in (32-bit), it will also be in the same “Program files (X86)/SAP Business Objects” Hence, continue the installation of Business Objects 4.1 in another folder.
Conclusion
The issue has been successfully resolved after performing the above steps.
