I'm back again - with yet another ASE feature test.
ASE Encryption option has been around for quite a while - since 12.5.3a. I have been working for more than a decade in a financial institution which was walking in circles around the question: to encrypt? not to encrypt? In-house? Application layer? Third-party tools? ASE feature??? How secure it is? What is performance implications?
A lot of questions around this issue. A lot of regulations. A lot of tools.
I have decided to do a mini-benchmark of my own and post here the results.
Just as with a previous feature tested and posted here, you will find the results in a presentation. You may download it and view at your leisure.
What it does is first summarizes the feature as it were in its first version (including the simple steps to set it up), then goes to 15.7 modification of it (which is much stronger) and finally looks into performance implications of encrypting your values.
