This was my second year volunteering with Wardrobe for Opportunity, a local non-profit that supports low-income individuals in their search for jobs. My team of 31 volunteers collected professional clothing and cash donations from colleagues at SAP for job seekers, so they can approach their interviews with confidence.

Last year I was the volunteer lead for the Palo Alto office, and I found the project so rewarding, that I volunteered to lead the entire drive this year across our Silicon Valley offices.  The opportunities that are created by WfO to help individuals search and find jobs is tremendous. Last year, I was able to visit their offices, see their boutique where people could find appropriate career clothing, and to participate in mock interviews with candidates was inspiring.

SAP volunteers organized clothing drives at our Silicon Valley offices in South San Francisco, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale and Dublin. I would like to thank Greg Miura, Julie Huynh, and Caitlin Frawley for their amazing support of this program as leaders in their offices. A special thank you to Carmen Kimberling for working with me in making the Palo Alto drive a huge success, and to the facilities team for their ongoing support.

Last, but not the least, thank you to all my colleagues who contributed to the drive. With your tremendous support, we collected over 745 pieces of clothing and over $250 in cash donations!

Wardrobe for Opportunity has to date served over 26,000 low-income individuals through its network of 40 partner social service organizations and job-training agencies across the Bay Area. Founded originally to provide professional clothing for women, the non-profit has expanded to provide in-depth, 360-degree professional development for men and women.

This year is Wardrobe for Opportunity’s 20th anniversary, and the community is helping them raise funds as well. If you would like to contribute, you can make an online donation.
