This October, SAP Global Month of Service goes into its 15th round! Are you ready?
Kicking off the celebration early, we are proud to be sharing a selection of 15 inspiring volunteer experiences over the coming weeks leading up to the beginning of October.
SAP Global Month of Service, it is our company’s largest volunteer initiative. In 2018, employees volunteered in more than 900 projects in communities around the world. And it doesn’t stop with Month of Service! Our employees are leading meaningful volunteer events year-round, when and where the need arises.

This week, we want you to meet Pedro 'Violin' and Stephanie, talented trainees discovered through SAP Corporate Social Responsibility programs in Brazil! Check out the article below and learn more about their journey of building a career at SAP!

SAP Brazil has several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, focusing on contributing to society’s development. Within education and technology for teenagers, the "Galera Apptitude" program is a highlight. Its aim is to train and enable school-age youth in programming and personal attributes difficult to teach and learn, known as soft skills, such as the ability to speak in public and improve performance in a formal job interview.
SAP has been partnering with FIAP Technology College since 2016, where SAP employees volunteer in promoting technology knowledge and experimentation programs among college students and high school youth. From these programs and partnerships, precious talents were discovered last year – two of them, being Stephanie and Pedro!
Stephanie Rodrigues and Pedro Filipe Sales, from Crescer Sempre, a school in the peripheral community of Paraisópolis, São Paulo, told us their story, background and and what they now do at SAP!

Tell us about yourself

Stephanie: I'm 18 years old and I live in Paraisópolis, South Zone of São Paulo. I study a Business Administration Bachelor and, if all goes well, I graduate in 2021. I studied in a public school until High School, when I had the opportunity to join a private school of social initiative, Associação Crescer Sempre. In a way, it was this school that guided me to SAP.

Pedro: My name is Pedro Filipe, or, as they call me here in SAP, "Violin", because I played violin with the SAP employees’ band at a meeting this year. I am 18 years old and I am in the 4th and last semester of the Digital Games technologist degree at FIAP. If I maintain my good grades, and if I can balance college and work at SAP, I will graduate this year!

Your journey to SAP 

Stephanie: I usually say that my SAP journey began long before I started here. In 2016, my school was invited to attend a lecture at SAP, from the program "Being a Woman in Tech" (an initiative to include more young women in this market). When I came across this atmosphere, I knew I would work here one day.
I am currently a trainee at SAP's Center of Expertise (CoE), responsible for delivering customer service and support. My manager is Carlos Carvalho, one of my biggest inspirations in here. Most of my activities involve the work of other people. Helping people, even in the simplest things, and receiving positive feedback, is one of the things I value most here.

Pedro: My story with SAP started when I started Digital Games at FIAP. After a year of studying, I received an invitation from SAP's CSR area for a meeting, where I would introduce myself to the president of the company, Cristina Palmaka. When they found out that I played the violin, I was also invited to play with the SAP band. Out of the blue, at the end of the meeting, Cristina and Denis Tassitano, General Business director, invited me to join the SAP team as a trainee!
I have been with SAP for 4 months. As a Digital Demand Executive, I love creating content. Whether writing emails or presentations, I always try to put myself in the shoes of who’s on the other side, to ensure their maximum interest in the content.

The story of Stephanie and Pedro is one of the many amazing outcomes that our CSR programs and partnerships can have. Volunteering offers the opportunity to rekindle our human connection, meet people where they are, take the chance to change perspectives – not just our own – and discover future talent along the way!
