SEM-BCS - parallell data basis and consolidation area to UC_CONTENT_ACTIVAT

We have run the report UC_CONTENT_ACTIVATE to use as help when setting up consolidation at a customer. We also wanted to create a parallell data basis to the 01 that the report created, and also a consolidation area connected to our new data basis. We have managed to create a data basis 02 that seems OK. But - we can´t create consolidation areas. We have done it several times, connected it to data basis 02 - but the next time we log on it has disappeard. Same thing if we create consolidation units in the consolidation area before exiting - they are also gone next time we log on.

Has anyone else experienced this - what could cause this behaviour? It should be possible to have parallell data basis and consolidation areas.

Hi Kerstin and welcome to SDN,

Usually these are problems with RFC-connection if you use the SAP delivered example. Have you set it up (connection) properly, as the notes say: 736226 for SEM-BCS 4.0 & 859893 - for 6.0?

Why do you need more than one database?

Of course there are some scenarios with more than 1 database, but is it neccessary?

The consolidation area is a part of a database.

If you need several financial reports HGB / IFRS / US-GAAP, you could use the "version" to differentiate them, or you use more cons areas to differentiate them.

There are some pro some contra...

But I see no use of creating more than 1 database...

In this case, we would like to have the predefined UC_CONTENT_ACTIVATE as a reference and have a parallell data basis/consolidation area for the customer specific settings (they are not the same as in the reference).

I would recommend to use a complete own database and a own consolidation area for your customer.

Before you go into BCS, you should think about which characteristics and key figures you need for your solution. Then, after activating the content, create a DB, 02 e.g., put in the transactional infocube e.g. ZCS00T01(copy of 0BCS_C11) and put in the names for the other infoproviders you need (e.g. evidence, reporting cube etc.). ...

etc...
