PPDS - Planning with planning material

Hi gurus,

I am trying to use the planning with planning material strategy through PPDS. In S/4 Hana I have both materials (finished and semifinished) set up with strategy group 60, and also the semifinished material is assigned as planning material with the planning plant in the finished good MRP 3 view.

Checking MD04 everything looks ok, sales orders for the finished product are consuming forecast for the semifinished one, but in PPDS that consumption is not happening.

In material master "Advanced planning" view both materials have been set up with "Proposed strategy" =40 (Planning product).

Any idea about what I could be missing?

Hello,

Why are you using planning strategy 40 for semi finished materials?

You can try the same scenario for FG materials with planning strategy 63.

Make sure you have a planning product hierarchy in /SAPAPO/RELHSHOW.

I had the hierarchy already created but may be I did something wrong: the semifinished product is the level 001 (Planning Product) and the finished material the 002 (Location Product). I attached some screenshots below.

I tried also with the finished material as level 001 and semi level 002, but not working neither...

Did I miss to include additional data in the hierarchy?

Regarding the planing strategy for the semifinished product I will try with 20 planning w final assembly or 10 make to stock just in case it would be the problem.

Hello,

As per my knowledge you do not need the semi-finished product in the hierarchy. Also I have no idea why do you want to assign the planning strategy to SFG materials.

In the hierarchy at level 001 would be planning material and level 002 all FG materials.

Please check the table PGMI for planning material and FG connection same should appear in the hierarchy.

maybe I have understood something in a wrong way...

I have the forecast loaded for the SFG, so once the sales order are created for the FG, I want to consume the SO quantity from the forecast in the SFG. The idea is to manufacture the SFG in advance before having the FG demand.

To obtain this behavior I think the Planning material (in the hierarchy) is the SFG and I have included it at level 001. Is that not right?

Just in case in table PGMI there is a record with the hierarchy connection.

Hello,

To manufacture the SFG in advance before having the FG demand, you don't need to forecast on SFG.

You will have the forecast only on the planning materials and then maintain the BOM for the planning material with all (common) SFG which you would like to be manufactured in advance before having the FG demand.

As you don't have a demand (sales orders) on FG even thou you may have the planned orders for planning material as per your forecast. Which will create the dependent demand on SFG and planned order will be created against that which can be inventoried.

So you can manufacture the SFG well in advance. Once you will have the demand (sales order) on FG, it will consume the forecast for planning material. Heuristic run will create planned order for FG materials and reduce or delete the planning material planned orders. And then FG planned order can utilize the inventory or supply of SFG.

This how you can mold this scenario in better way !
