Need of protected attributes in standard public class ? like /scdl/cl_dl_item

Hi,

I have a protected instance attribute mt_hierarchy of /scdl/cl_dl_item class. I would like to access this attribute in my local program.

Q1. I can access this attribute in debugging but i am not able to use it in program. I shouldnt be able to access it outside the class right even in debugging mode.

Q2. What is the use of protected attributes in standard global class ?

Q1. In debugging mode, you can act on anything (except read-only), it's not different with ABAP Objects.
