Hi,
we (my company) will launch SAP S/4 HANA EWM at one of our customer in the near future.
In the past they use LE-TRA which should be replaced by a SAP Transportation Management (TM) solution for basic shipping at outbound.
My questions:
- What is the successor of the LE-TRA customizing object "Transport relevance" in TM?
- If no successor is existing, what is the trigger for TM to create Freight units for special deliveries?
- Are freight units needed in any case, respectively what are freight units used for?
- Can I create a street freight order with allocating Transportation units instead of freight units?
Many thanks in advance for the answers!

Hello @Peter2408
Logistics TM integration is defined in SPRO: Transportation Management -> Integration -> Logistics Integration -> ...
The integration is defined per:
That is more or less the equivalent of transportation relevance from LE-TRA.
Freight unit defines goods transported together. You can view FUs as transpor requirements, goods that need to be shipped.
Freight units are not really obligatory, although they are used in most scenarios. You can have TM create freight orders directly from logistics documents, i.e. sales orders, purchase orders and/or deliveries.
Transportation unit is another object in TM, distinct from freight unit. It is used in load consolidation and it models e.g. containers or trailers. A typical scenario is that freight units are consolidated into transportation units.

Hello @Peter2408
Delivery integration is customized in SPRO: Transportation Management -> Integration -> Logistics Integration -> Internal TM Component Integration -> Define Transportation Relevance of Delivery Documents.
Freight units can be created either immediately when a TM relevant document e.g. a sales order or a delivery is created or their creation can be deferred until the /SCMTMS/SUBSEQUENT_FUB_LOGINT is executed. The latter option gives a possibility to consolidate multiple source documents into a single freight unit.
Freight units are transportation units are different objects. Freight unit is a transportation requirement, whereas transportation unit is already a planning object, that consolidates freight units. Transportation units are optional.
