How to assign storage bin to multiple production supply area?

deepanshulohia

We have a requirement from client to assign multiple storage bin to a single production supply area via /scwm/psastage. But the EWM system does not allow to do that.

Is there any custom development or any config settings that can be done for the system to allow it.

Hi,

did you check SAP Note "2561972 - Maintenance transaction /SCWM/PSASTAGE: Too many warnings - not maintenance-friendly"? OK, the note is about that the warning message (it is a warning message, not an error, isn't it) and that there are not several messages now anymore.

But the important part is in this explanation:

"If a storage bin is assigned to several PSAs, the system cannot determine the quantity for staging correctly, especially if you are using crate parts or cross-order staging.

Therefore, SAP recommends that you assign a production supply area to only one storage bin. For this reason, the message /SCWM/PSA 018 was introduced."

Sure you want to do this? And is the customer aware of the consequences of what they are asking for?

All the above is no official SAP statement.

Want to learn EWM?

Check for EWM courses: https://training.sap.com/trainingpath/Applications-Extended+Warehouse+Management-EWM+in+S4HANA

And it is EWM. NOT eWM - Duh!

And if your question includes the word "transfer order" - do NOT tag the question with Extended Warehouse Management!

Hello Juergen,

In my system, /scwm/psa018 serves as an error message when the staging method is cross order staging.

When the staging method is anything else, it is just a warning message as you mentioned.

But our customer is keen on getting this to work. If we have a working model, then we can illustrate its drawbacks and if still they wish to proceed, we can implement.

Please assist how we can achieve this.

"If we have a working model, then we can illustrate its drawbacks and if still they wish to proceed, we can implement."

But there is no working model. Was not aware that the message depends on the staging method - but it makes sense. And you don't need a working example to explain why it does not work. Isn't it clear? For the staging step, the system checks the quantity in the bin. Only if you are below the minimum, then staging is triggered. How shall the system calculate the proper quantity, if you have several control cycles in EWM which are for the same bin?

Another consequence: if you would be able to stage for several PSA into the same bin - how would you control that the worker takes what is supposed to be for his production order?

Hi Juergen,

Agreed. And the same was discussed with business, but in ECC they have storage bins which share space in separate PSA.

Hence, they wanted to go for it.

Is there any way we can achieve the required?

Hi,

"Is there any way we can achieve the required?"

Not that I am aware of. If you wrote, you get an error message.

It is simply not working the same way as in WM, that's why not all the things customers are used to, can be re-used in EWM, especially when working with advanced production integration.

Hello together,

our client is also requesting the described Gap, to have a common staging Bin assigned to multiple PSAs.

@JuergenPitz The business requirement in our scenario is quite clear I think. It is requested to stage materials that are used on several work centers at the same time (each of them is having a separate PSA), to a "common" material Bin. Only materials that are specific to each production order like packaging material is staged directly to the GM Bin of the PSA. The idea behind that is saving space in the production area, to not have 10 pallets of the same material at the same time on the shop floor. Since these materials are not used all the time, replenishment via planned repl. or crate part does not solve our Gap.

Did someone of the people involved in this chat made some progress on the topic in the last months? @deepanshulohia @former_member809407

I would be really glad to receive some feedback from you.
