EWM embedded in digital core of S/4 HANA in 1610?

While this blog post clearly states that EWM will no longer be required and additional SAP messaging @TECHED, The most updated simplification document of 1610 (p. 222) states:

“2.1.18.1.3 Required and Recommended Action(s) The Warehouse Management (LE-WM) and the other components described above is not the target architecture within SAP S/4HANA. The (already available) alternative functionality is Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) and a customer could start introducing EWM upfront to the SAP S/4HANA installation. ”

So, is it or is it not a part of S4?

Hello Faruk,

you can use basic functions EWM in S/4HANA without having to pay the EWM Engine License. When you use EWM in S/4 HANA, you have to declare in the customizing activity Acknowledge Use of Advanced Functions what you plan to do per warehouse (Basic or Advanced Functions).

When you want to use the advanced functions, you have to pay the license also for the integrated use. The IMG documentation provides an overview.

Hi,

we're implementing S4H for our client. They need to manage stock under storage bin, they don't need complex EWM function.

I try to use WM in S4H in DemoClound system, but many WM tcode has abap dump issue.

I want to ask :

1) Is there any configuration guide for EWM within S4H?

2) since the data transfer & EWM order is no longer required in centralized WM, how to do related transaction(put away... )?

Hello Panaya,

with version 1610 EWM is part of SAP S/4 HANA. In the future you have two options:

  • Connect your SAP S/4 HANA system to a decentralized SAP EWM system. With this option you have an independent software lifecycle for your ERP applications in SAP S/4 HANA and your warehousing processes in SAP EWM. This is usually the preferred option for large warehosues or when you use MFS.
  • Use EWM within S/4 HANA. This means one system less to administrate and offers the potential for a tighter integration and more simplifications.

You can also have a system landscape with some warehouses running in SAP S/4 HANA and other warehouses running decentralized. The big advantage is that your customizing and your custom development can be identical in both systems.

Best regards,
Katrin

But how do one connect/assign an embedded EWM structure?

I cannot find anything in the IMG which is different from the assignment to a SCM EWM structure.

I would be very grateful if you please could advice me.

Hello Katrin,

"Connect your SAP S/4 HANA system to a decentralized SAP EWM system. With this option you have an independent software lifecycle for your ERP applications in SAP S/4 HANA and your warehousing processes in SAP EWM. This is usually the preferred option for large warehosues or when you use MFS."

Honestly as you said it is preferable for MFS usage. It is not impossible to use MFS with Embedded EWM.

Due to performance reasons, Decentralized SAP EWM can be better than Embedded EWM.

I have just wanted to make it clear.

Best Regards.

Hi,

If we choose to implement SAP EWM as decentral connected with S4H, do we have to pay licence also for SAP EWM ?

Hi,

it is (assuming you mean embedded EWM). And although the text maybe should be re-worked, in general it is not wrong. LE-WM is not the target architecture within SAP S/4HANA.
