Already in February 2023 we have released the new Feature Package FPS01 for SAP S/4HANA 2022 release. With this Feature Pack we bring new innovations for our supply chain execution platform with a strong focus on Integration aspects and scenarios to the market..

Additionally to new features in  Advanced Shipping and Receiving (ASR) we strengthen the established and well proven TM-EWM integration. But also completely new integration processes are supported and usability and Interoperability is improved tremendously by this.

Another key investment area is Strategic Freight Procurement (SFP), which has been a focus mayor area of this Feature Package.

Below I wanted to to highlight the main innovations.

Integration:

  • Transport Driven Outbound Process with Advanced Shipping and Receiving (ASR)

Transportation-driven ASR integration process

The main focus on previous Advanced Shipping and Receiving scenarios have been warehouse or execution driven. With this new great innovation we now support a transportation driven ASR process. This means, that the transportation planner is using all of the capabilities of TM like the VSR Optimizer, Package Building and Load Optimization to finalize a cost optimized transportation plan and in a second step this cost optimal plan is handed over to EWM for warehouse processing.

To enable this the warehouse activities are blocked until transportation planning is finalized and the plan is released and transferred to EWM.

That's still not all about integration. We have made big steps forward also in the TU-based TM-EWM Integration.

  • First of all, we now also support the TU-based Integration between TM and EWM for Stock Stock Transport Orders.

  • Secondly we now also support the cancellation of freight orders or deletion of stops in a  Multi-Pickup, Multi-drop Scenarios in the TU-based TM/EWM integration

That means, than now you can cancel freight orders or stops in multi-pickup, multi-drop scenarios directly in TM.  As a consequence also the related warehouse activities are adopted. Alternatively the cancellation process may originate from EWM activities, which will as a consequence cancel stops and stages or complete freight orders in TM.

Furthermore you can now also handle Supplier Returns by triggering QM notification. I don't go into the details of this new feature as there is already a really great blog available.

Transportation Management is now also Integrated into Advanced Intercompany Business Processes. That means in particular, that

  • TM is integrated into advanced intercompany sales and

  • Advanced intercompany stock transfer order (STO) processes

whereby also

  • Freight Cost Posting in advanced intercompany sales and STO is supported now

TM supports Advanced Intercompany Business Processes

Of course this integration also supports the new Incoterm handling that was released with SAP S/4HANA 2022.
You can find further details under Transportation Management in Advanced Intercompany Business Processes.

As already highlighted above major investment have been done in Strategic Freight Procurement.
I wanted to list here the most important features, which improve depth and usability of SFP tremendously.

  • Flat view format for Carrier RFQs and using Spreadsheets

As a shipper you can work now with a single user interface (UI) for capacity demand and rates when negotiating freight agreement requests for quotation (RFQs) with carriers. You can manage your capacity demand and rates for an item in a consolidated flat view in a freight agreement RFQ master. The flat view is based on a capacity demand and rates profile that you define in Customizing.
Rates and capacities for all the relevant charges can be maintained directly on this UI.
This new feature improved usability significantly.

RFQ flat view and downloading option

Furthermore you can download the details of capacity demand and rates into a flat view spreadsheet, update the spreadsheet and finally upload again. Additionally you can enable your your carriers to work with a similar spreadsheet when they respond to freight agreement requests for quotation (RFQs).

  • Create RfQ Master from Freight Agreement, also for an advanced RFQ type

With this feature, as a shipper you are able to use capacity demand and rates in a RFQ master that is created from a freight agreement.
How is that done?
When you create a freight agreement RFQ master from a freight agreement, the system determines the capacity demand and rates profile based on the calculation sheet template in the freight agreement items. If the system is unable to determine a capacity demand and rates profile, the capacity demand and rates are still displayed as a single user interface with all possible details of the charges of an RFQ item. You can manually add the capacity demand and rates profile in the item of a freight agreement RFQ master.

  • Evaluations and Awarding Using Capacity Demand and Rates

  • Enable tolerance of mistakes

With this feature, you as a shipper can use the evaluations and awarding functions of capacity demand and rates to compare carrier responses and award the transportation business to carriers.

You can use the evaluations user interface in capacity demand and rates to insert or edit simulations to evaluate and compare carrier responses received for a freight agreement request for quotation (RFQ) master.

What you can do also is to take corrective measures when mistakes are made during the negotiation of freight agreement RFQs with carriers. This means that a carrier can now resubmit responses after you have opened one or multiple freight agreement RFQs and you have edited some of the data.
What you can do as well is to end the bidding period early if all carriers responded already (or rejected).

Those were just the highlights. You can get more information with the following links:
