Today I would like to share with you, the key development highlights of the 2021 Release for SAP S/4HANA extended Service Parts Planning, offered as a Private Cloud or On-Premise.
The initial first version of extended Service Parts Planning in S/4HANA was introduced in the 2020 release. In this year's second release, we introduce a new Fiori App for migration tools, innovations in the Inventory Planning space, additional Forecasting capabilities, enhancements in Distribution Requirements Planning, an initial version of the Digital Supply Chain Edition, in addition to Analytics & Monitoring enhancements, among others. All planned innovations are published on roadmaps.sap.com
In order to facilitate the migration of existing APO-SPP customers into S/4HANA, we are introducing a Fiori App that facilitates data migration. This provides a general framework that enables a guided migration approach for seven eSPP master data objects. It can be extended further for a full migration of the remaining objects (e.g. including the Live-Cache) via a consulting project.

eSPP is now available as part of the SAP Digital Supply Chain Management (DSC), edition for SAP S/4HANA. This means in this year’s release we offer an initial version allowing customers to use eSPP in a side-by-side planning system with a connection to another S/4HANA execution systems.
Both systems are connected via Core Interface (CIF): Master data is integrated from the S/4HANA execution system to the eSPP system and transactional data is exchanged bidirectionally. The integration is controlled via integration models that are created and activated in the S/4HANA execution system.
Additionally, we provide more flexibility to either deploy eSPP as One S/4HANA instance including Planning & execution together or a separation of a S/4HANA instance for Planning (eSPP) connected to multiple execution ERP systems. The full scope including aATP checks and allowing customers to connect eSPP with ECC systems will be available as of the 2022 release.

eSPP delivers a wide selection of Aftermarket-specific Forecasting models. On top of the initial 2020 forecasting models, two new models are added as part of the S/4HANA 2021 release. The ‘Dynamic Moving Average’ and ‘Declining Demand Forecast’.
As a simplification, planners do not longer have to set all parameters in the Forecast Profile. In case of parameters that are not set, the system uses a “Default” value for this parameter to enable a Forecast calculation. A second simplification is related to “Model Evaluation” parameters, where only the parameters relevant for the selected Forecast Strategy are displayed in the user's UI. Finally, we have made some simplifications of the forecast error calculations as part of the overall usability and performance enhancements. Users can now fine-tune Forecast models using a lot of parameters.
With the 2020 Release, we introduced the integration of eSPP with IBP for Inventory. In this year’s release, we enhanced the UI allowing users to distinguish between the origin of the safety stock calculations resulting from IBP-Inventory or from eSPP. Additionally, performance is enhanced on the way safety stock values are integrated
In APO-SPP and in former releases of eSPP, the DRP input was based on three different sources. As a simplification of the DRP logic, we introduce the option of DS only (Detailed Scheduling) as the new default. This allows faster DRP calculation and avoid data inconsistencies.
Existing SPP customers still have the ability to use the old logic as a fallback. For instance in case they have built enhancements based on the old logic.
Users are now able to access “Inbound Deliveries” from the Shortage Monitor, a cockpit transaction that enables eSPP planners to review products based on their criticality.
That allows users to have the ability to review if the critical/ potentially critical situation will improve soon or whether they must take additional measures. Users can navigate to an Inbound Delivery “Header” section with basic information and to a more detailed “Item” section. From there, eSPP allows navigation to the Inbound Delivery to view all details or make changes.
Additionally, some reporting transactions (Shortage Overview, Shortage Monitor, Alert Monitor, Alert Summary) can now be accessed in two ways: Either users can access them directly from the Easy Access menu via navigation tree or via newly generated transaction codes or via the Fiori Homepage for eSPP planners.
Note: In SPP and in former eSPP releases, these reports were available as part of the “Business Client” (former: NWBC- Netweaver Business Client) or as rendered SAP GUI transactions only

What’s being planned for the future
In the next year’s releases, we plan to continue developing a state of the art Service Parts Planning functionalities, key highlights would include innovations in the area of:
- Inventory Optimisation: Direct integration of Multi-Stage Inventory Optimisation Engine is planned directly based on eSPP data model within S/4HANA. Which provides optimised performance and simplified configuration and operation
- Integration of Predictive Analytics Forecasting Library (PAL):
- ARIMA Forecast model: Improves time series analysis with auto regressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model. Benefiting from better Forecasting accuracy in case of trend & seasonal demand patterns
- Gradient Boosting of Decision Trees: Allowing to use Gradient boosting tree machine learning technique for regression problems in Forecasting. Reducing Forecasting errors to benefit from lower inventory holding cost
- DSC Edition (Side-by-Side Planning) “Live” integration of planning and execution systems including ECCs system
