Today, February 3rd, 2021, SAP® Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain 2102 has been generally released as planned. We are starting the new year with major enhancements in the area of Response and Supply and Intelligent Visibility among others. With the Planning Workspace, a new UI offering interoperability with production planning and detailed scheduling will come to the market in the near future and I also recommend our latest demo vision video on Synchronized Planning. But let’s first take a look at some of the many highlights of SAP IBP 2102:

Innovations in Response & Supply

 Interactive Planning on Orders

You can now create, change, fix/unfix purchase requisitions, stock transfer requisitions and planned orders.

The planner can interactively change an existing plan in order to improve the planning results or to solve a problem and trigger a planning run directly from View Projected Stock app.

The manually created supply elements can be integrated with SAP S/4HANA or SAP ERP. Supply elements are created or changed infinitely without considering any constraints. Manually entered supply elements are fixed automatically and thus considered like execution elements in the next planning run.


Product Substitution in Order-Based Planning

Location product substitution in order-based planning now allows you to plan for product transitions in advance. Depending on the chosen substitution procedure, existing inventory can be used up efficiently, and newly introduced products can be supplied in time for the planned demand. The focus of this first release is on the most common scenarios for consumer industries: discontinuation with and without use-up, discontinuation with mutual substitution, and promotion planning.

The substitution master data is integrated via SAP Cloud Integration for data services. Planning runs using the optimizer planning algorithm will then create a feasible supply plan with substitution orders in SAP IBP.


Define Capacity Limits with Transportation Resources

Transportation resources can now be used as a new constraint in operational supply planning. They allow you to define transportation capacity limits for stock transfers and external procurement. By that, transportation demand is limited to available capacity and, if needed, balanced across multiple days. The optimized mode of transport is selected based on available capacity.

This is imperative for creating a feasible distribution plan and therefore particularly useful in deployment planning.

You can define capacity in any unit of measure. Conversion rates from product base unit of measure (UoM) to resource UoM can be defined in SAP IBP or integrated from SAP ECC / SAP S/4HANA.


Next Generation Visibility

Intelligent visibility for Upstream and Downstream Products and Locations

Intelligent Visibility continues to evolve with the addition of new features supporting end-to-end supply chain visibility. The new features help you determine and analyze dependent upstream and downstream products and locations. The display of inputs and outputs in a product network helps to increase efficiency in analyzing exceptions and identifying performance improvement opportunities between components and their impacted finished goods. Additionally, you can customize your experience in Intelligent Visibility by enabling scenario-specific views of the supply chain. You can configure the geographic focus point and detail level for the supply chain network and set filter values to be applied to the charts, allowing you to proactively identify and resolve supply chain disruptions.


Product and Location Visualization with SAP Enterprise Product Development

Intelligent Visibility is now integrated with SAP Enterprise Product Development. You can view 3D models of products and locations within Intelligent Visibility while retaining the context of exceptions and supply chain values. The full set of capabilities of SAP Enterprise Product Development allows you to gain insights into product and location design, input components, and dependencies. The on-demand display includes component structures, zooming, panning, rotation, cross-section, and highlighting.

Sales and Operations Planning

Subnetwork Selection by Filter

Subnetwork selection by filter offers planners a flexible way to select location products for planning by specifying filter criteria based on attributes of location, product, or location product. Changes to a plan are often localized and you only need to re-plan the affected part of a large supply network. Planners can now restrict a planning run to those location products they're responsible for, or to those affected by a change in input, such as a sudden increase in demand. The location products are specified either by a pre-defined planning filter or by manually entering the filter criteria. Filter environment policies allow you to extend your filter criteria by including location products in the 'closer environment' of your selection.


Improved Productivity and Flexibility in Driver-Based Planning: Create Multiple Drivers in One Go

Planners can now easily create, copy, and save multiple drivers directly in the summary part of the driver planning view. Grid features like drag and drop of cell values, value help, and date selections help to simplify the creation process.

External drivers from the SAP IBP, add-in for Microsoft Excel can be copied and saved and the new driver IDs are suggested automatically. To avoid locking issues, drivers are queued and created in the background.


Other Highlights

Simplified Use of Seasonal Patterns: Forecasting with Aggregated Seasonality

We now support the identification of seasonality on an aggregated level, for example product group, and the use of this seasonality information in forecasting at a lower level, for example product. This approach simplifies the use of seasonal patterns in other demand planning processes and lowers the risk of data processing faults.

You can specify storage key figures for seasonal patterns at a lower level compared to the calculation level of time series analysis. If the level of the storage key figure is lower than the calculation level, disaggregation is automatically executed.


Analyze and Compare Planning Area Changes and Historical States

All configuration changes to a planning area are now automatically saved and the historical states are available for analysis and comparison. You can get an overview of how planning areas and master data types have changed over time and display the configuration history of a planning area, planning level, key figure, or version. The details of any historical state saved for the objects can be viewed using the “Show History” feature. You can now compare any two planning area configurations, including different states of the same planning area. You can, for example, compare the current state of a planning area with the state of two weeks ago and review all the changes made to the planning area since then.


New Change History Analysis App – Analyze Major Changes and Impacts on Your Plans

The new and improved Change History Analysis app allows planners to analyze the most important changes that impact their plans. It shows the qualitative and quantitative information you need to understand the reasons behind the change. You can personalize the Effect View, filter and view changes by source of change, download change history data, and save multiple change history views for effective review meetings.
