Also in 2023, we continue to deliver each quarter a new SAP Best Practices for SAP Integrated Business Planning Version for you. The 2302 version is now available. As always full of valuable business content, enhancements, and simplifications.

One comment here: you might have recognized, that the following pop-up informs you about the deprecation of the SAP Best Practices Explorer. This doesn't mean that we stop the delivery of SAP Best Practices for SAP IBP! It only means that there will be another way to access the content and you can rely as always on our quarterly updates and enhancements.

You can check this blog for more information - but of course, I'll also update you as soon as the new tool is available.

Let's now have a look at the new enhancements and changes.

Sample planning area SAPIBP1:

As every quarter we applied the latest and greatest features to the SAPIBP1 planning area, included the feedback from our customers, and made it easier and simpler.

  • New adjustment key figures for local and global demand plan quantity
Key figures such as LOCALDEMANDPLANQTY and DEMANDPLANNINGQTY involve intense user interaction in building demand plans. For each of these key figures, you can configure three different key figures to separately manage initial defaulted values, manual adjustment values, and final values. The key figures FINALLOCALDEMANDPLANQTY / FINALDEMANDPLANNINGQTY / ADJLOCALDEMANDPLANQTY / ADJDEMANDPLANNINGQTY have been added to eliminate the ambiguity whether final results originate from the initial defaulting values or from the manually adjusted ones. Please note that this change is optional. Only implement it if you want to have this new logic in place.

  • Unassign not required time attribute PERIODID from multiple planning levels
In earlier versions of SAPIBP1, the PERIODID time attribute was required for attribute transformations for last-period aggregation. With the introduction of the IBP_LPA simplified key figure modeling in a previous release, it is no longer required to have the PERIODID time attribute assigned to planning levels. This has now been adjusted.

  • Adjust decimal settings of FORECASTCONSTR, IPUPORDUCTION, IPUPRODUCTIONCOMPENTDS, and STDDEVACTUALSQTY to 6 to improve the accuracy of their disaggregation
The decimal settings for the FORECASTCONSTR, IPUPRODUCTION, IPUPRODUCTIONCOMPONENTDS and STDDEVACTUALSQTY key figures have been changed to improve the accuracy of their disaggregation.

  • Change AOPREV and MARKETSIZEREV key figures to both stored and calculated
Calculations on the non-request level are defined for the AOPREV and MARKETSIZEREV key figures. That’s why for good modeling practice, their type has been changed to both stored and calculated. Note: this is a housekeeping activity, there is no impact on activation or calculation results.

Transportation Load Building

The IBP for response and supply – transportation load building scope item has been enhanced with interactive planning of loads. It’s now possible to create, unload, or delete loads and load items in the Planner Workspace. Users can change the equipment type of a load and add distribution receipts and manually enter product quantities to loads. Check the test script for more details.

Inventory Optimization

The IBP for inventory – scenario planning scope item has been enhanced with additional steps to promote a scenario to the baseline if the simulation results in the inventory analysis app are promising. You can find more details here.

Supply Chain Risk Management + Analytics stories

The new scope item IBP – supply chain risk management covers two hot topics.

  1. Disruptions as we saw them in the last 2-3 years (like covid lockdown, the war in Ukraine, climate change, flooding, etc) increase supply chain risks. The resiliency of the supply chain and with that resiliency of the business is getting more and more important. Uncovering and subsequently eliminating risks throughout the supply chain network is more important than ever. The spectrum of risks is pretty broad - from logistics risks, to supplier risks - but also supply chain planning risks. In this scope item, we take a closer look at the latter.

  2. This story is built with the new analytics stories which are available by 2211. This new functionality leverages the best-in-class analysis and visualization capabilities of SAP Analytics Cloud, and allows SAP IBP users to create powerful and user-friendly visualizations to complement the planning capabilities of SAP IBP. Scores are used to illustrate risks that result from low forecast accuracy, inaccurate safety stock levels, resource bottlenecks, and excess CO2 emissions. It helps supply chain leads analyze typical supply chain risks and collaborate with planners to eliminate them.

We deliver the scope item content through a presentation describing the setup of the story pages and a video showing how supply chain leads can work with the story.
