As SAP IBP is giving customers the flexibility to configure hundreds or thousands of key figures to support their respective business planning models, sometimes it is crucial to understand where these key figures are currently being used in the system. Moreover, if you are supporting customer’s SAP IBP system, aside from the documentation available, the application is quite helpful to quickly determine the so-called where-used.

This is how the ‘Where-Used Information for Key Figures’ application becomes handy. The application has the possibility to provide the where-used list of the selected key figure with the following information:

  • Key Figures à if the selected key figure is being used as part of the key figure calculation for example.

  • Copy Operator Profiles à if the selected key figure is being used as either Source or Target key figure in the copy operators.

  • Planning View Templates and Sheets à if the selected key figure is being used in the IBP Excel Planning Templates.

Example below from my IBP customer, all you have to do is key-in the Planning Area, identify automatically the Status, and then of course the Key Figure’s technical ID.

The results are of course shown (number of hits) with the breakdown information of Key Figures, Copy Operator Profiles and Planning View Templates and Sheets.

Under Key Figures, there is also a possibility to quickly jump into the Key Figure configuration app where you can easily see how the selected key figure is used as part of the calculation logic.

See below information for the authorization and other details before using the application from SAP help documentation.

Depending on your user permissions, you might not be authorized to see all objects of the where-used list. To ensure that you can display all dependent objects, make sure that the following business catalogs are assigned to the business role that is assigned to your business user:

Dependent Objects You Want to Display Business Catalog Business Catalog ID
Key figures Planning Model Configuration SAP_IBP_BC_PLANMODEL_CF_PC
Copy operator profiles Copy Operator Profiles SAP_IBP_BC_COPYOPPROFILE_PC
Planning View Templates and Sheets Basic Planning Tasks SAP_IBP_BC_EXCEL_ADDIN_PC

To be authorized to use the app, make sure that the Where-Used Information for SAP IBP Entities (SAP_IBP_BC_WHERE_USED_PC) business catalog is assigned to your role.

In the future, it may be good to add more information such as Custom Alerts, Analytics and Dashboards or even in the Web-Based and Driver-Based Planning, Application Job or Template etc. Looking forward, SAP! 🙂
