SAP TechEd was something of a tidal wave. In the desert.

The amount of energy that goes into planning a conference of its size – and then is required to actually DO the conference – is colossal. From the ocean’s vast potential, a wave gathers momentum and unleashes its force in a dramatic splash.

And then it’s gone.

But I’m not here to survey damage, but to relish in the results: There were more attendees (and from more countries) than ever before; the social media storm was stronger than ever before (e.g. 8,543 tweets sent containing the #SAPTechEd hashtag); and the audience was extended more than ever before, with more than 60,000 online video views. And counting.

Our “SAP TechEd Live” interview program, back for its fourth year, has substantial impact towards this online viewership. This year in Las Vegas alone we streamed and recorded 40 interviews with TechEd speakers, SAP executives, SAP Mentors, bloggers, customers, and SAP partners.

Guests of the program touched on everything from Vishal’s keynote announcements to OLAP and data cubing. They discussed SAP’s real-time data platform strategy, mobile development in the ecosystem, and less product-centric topics such the changing ways we do business and do work in the enterprise and the role of empathy in design thinking.

Customers described their experiences with rapid deployment solutions, SAP NetWeaver Cloud, and Gateway.

Did I leave anything out?

Ah, yes: HANA!

We learned more about SAP HANA One (productive HANA on AWS), SAP HANA Academy, RDS for HANA, startups using HANA, HANA Distinguished Engineers, and took a deep dive on SAP HANA development.

Visit SAP TechEd Online for all recordings and details of interviews, lectures, and keynotes from SAP TechEd 2012, or check out my own compilation of interviews.

The collection will grow. We’re already getting ready for the next wave in Madrid.
