Why did you choose security and controls as your area of interest in SAP?
I have worked for small, medium and large corporations using multiple ERP applications. I started as an application developer working with multiple acquisitions and divestures of companies. Identifying master data, creating conversion programs, implementing EDI, performing systems analysis and documenting requirements for other developers as workloads increased with short deadlines. With increasing responsibility I managed three new data center construction projects, multiple ERP implementations, and assumed roles of increasing responsibility until I was an IT Manager. When I was working on a joint venture for DuPont at Griffin LLC, they needed a technical team lead for a global SAP project. With my jack of all trades background I was able to become part of the Wonderful World of SAP (WWOS). When the project ended, we all needed to return to roles in the business which had been backfilled during our 18 month project. With a data center being outsourced and no desire to move I focused on SAP Security and Risk Management as I not only performed the development on the project but had been doing this in multiple companies, on multiple platforms and operating systems. This led to Security Team Lead roles at Georgia-Pacific and now The Coca-Cola Company. Along with my IT experience I have also worked as an IT Auditor and mentor.
What is your favorite hobby?
Sometimes I wonder if SAP is one of my hobbies. Between work I have found great pleasure in networking with other users and also influencing multiple areas of development in SAP. Many times I have found that SAP did not really understand how we used their creation since they are not involved in all of the industries that we represent. Hearing our ideas, many times multiple customers join together to receive benefits for all of us.
My other hobbies are Fast, Loud and usually Big. From turbocharging, to drag racing, to lifted monster trucks to custom street rods I have built, enjoyed and passed them on. Driving 0-60 cars with 2 second times is fun, but this has you looking for lights more often than you would like. This is why I prefer cruising in a lifted monster truck or street rod because it is the other people who are finding roadside trouble instead of you.
Why do you attend TechEd/d-code?
I attend because at TechEd you find people with answers to all of the tough questions. Connections to mentors, customers, vendors, developers and other associates that all want the most out of SAP for their companies. Many of the people you meet become longtime friends in the community. Today they are leading you to the right solution and tomorrow you are helping them with your lessons learned. In the end you all join together to influence SAP for the future.
The value you receive from these conversations far outweighs any costs involved.
Why should attendees attend your session?
I have two sessions related to GRC implementations back to back on Wednesday afternoon. The first includes answers to many of the questions people ask about GRC implementations. Lessons I have learned during go live, through support and frustrating troubleshooting. Many of these have saved other users hours of frustration and you will most likely find tips whether you are planning an implementation or are already live. The second presentation is more than a lecture as I have loaded the presentation with details for using LDAP connections and configuration in GRC. Many of the details spill over into other similar SAP applications.
