The 4th TCOE India Innovation Meet was organized by Department of Telecommunication (DOT), Government of India in support from C-DOT (Centre for Development of Telematics). The meeting was chaired by the Secretary, Ministry of Telecommunication along with the Additional Secretary, Telecom and the team. The participation was from the Government, Academia, Indo European ICT delegate, Venture Capitalists and some of the key startups along with industry representation. SAP attended this meet with focus on our University Alliance initiative. The vision of the Telecom Centre for Excellence (TCOE) as shared is to enable all Indians and make them benefit from telecom technology and improve their quality of life. The Academia and the Industry will work to collaborate in developing technologies in PPP model through Telecom Centre of Excellence (TCOEs). This is being constructed as another initiative of the Government of India through its telecommunication arm, Department of Telecommunication (DOT) to add to the Make in India Program and Digital India Programs. The strategy of these TCOEs is to undertake industry driven research through a competitive process by opening up its research platform to all stake holders of ICT sector. As per the plans, the TCOEs will emerge as effective centers with superior intellectual mass for innovations and will help in promoting entrepreneurship to fulfill the technological needs of the ICT sector and make the Indian Telecommunication centers as more advanced and most affordable in the world. The event saw participation of a few Top Engineering colleges like IIT Roorkee, IIT Chennai, NIT Delhi and corporates like Vodafone, SAP, Intex etc Following were the concluding points: The program intends to promote startups with regular meeting of startup mentors, industry with the entrepreneurs/ students. Premier Institutes like IITs, NITs, IIMs to mentor the startups and support the program with own funding or through VCs who are aligned to the program. Government will be a minority shareholder but a will be the facilitator and give the platform & infrastructure Ensure problem solving approach with Institutions and Industry to support them. Business angle may be applied for institutes also as they can treat themselves as partners in the projects that are being seeded in their campus and mentored by them. Government will have regular Forum for communication and an office for interaction and forum meetings. SAP has a clear opportunity to work with the universities identified by the program and extend its University Alliance Program to offer the SAP Next Gen Consulting Initiative with these Top Universities and SAP Ecosystem offering great opportunities for students to co-innovate with the Ecosystem using cool SAP solutions .
