When it comes to the hottest shopping trends this holiday season, “Monday is the new Friday,” according to lifestyle expert Megan Meany, who was in New York recently for a satellite media tour about holiday shopping trends. “Cyber Monday actually has better prices and is more convenient,” said Meany. “Tablets in particular are a hot item this year and you can get awesome deals on sneakers and high heels – much better deals than what Black Friday offers.”
Meany used SAP Social Media Analytics by Netbase to uncover a host of different shopping trends, preferences, emotions and behaviors. The tool crunches data from blogs, tweets, Facebook and other popular social channels to offer a real-time view of consumer sentiment.
Even though 60 percent of consumer buzz comes from men about Cyber Monday deals, Meany maintains that Black Friday still offers good deals on certain items such as loafers for men and boots for women. And since many stores open earlier for Black Friday, you don’t necessarily have to deal with the “crush and the rush,” according to Meany. “As a busy mom I love hearing that there’s more time to get the deals. There’s a little less pressure this year based on the analytics.”
