Hi Experts,
We have installed WWI on a central server. We can run it without problems, but the Word, the "Graphics" folder and other features, are being pointed to the local PC.
We have differents PC's with different office installed, and when we run CG42, the report is opened with the local Word.
We don't know how to execute CG42 with the Word installed on the server, and that the graphics files point to the server folder.
Could someone help us with this?
Best Regards
Natalia.

Hi Natalia,
As already discussed the Synchron WWI Server doesn't help you to get rid of the local WWI installation for template editors using CG42.
However what you can do is to update the WWI.ini and point the variable GRAPHICS to a central network folder where you store all graphics:
This would allow you to update and manage graphics in one central place.

Hi,
With standard systems accesses the Graphic folder, if you want to centrally leave the graphics then try to enhance the functionality to use the Graphics / pictures loaded onto folders within ABAP environment, the way logos are stored.
You need to periodically update the content in ABAP stack as and when there are changes.

Dear Jayakumar
Regarding: "try to enhance the functionality to use the Graphics / pictures loaded onto folders within ABAP environment,"
What is your idea here? normally graphics have to be located on WWI server side; they are not retrieved by using some SAP stroage. Can you please explain a little bit.. Thanks
C.B.
Hi CB,
When you look at the WWI, it picks the graphics from a default folder located either in WWI server or WWI Local frond end GUI. Instead of searching there what you can do is change the default location to be ABAP (SE80) graphics, that is you load your graphics to this location. As when you have a changed graphics you can change the content using objector navigator.
When you make such changes system will by default pick the content from the object navigator (ABAP core) instead of front end and it is same for all the users.
Hope it clarifies a bit
Thanks and Regards
Jayakumar
Dear Jayakumar
please confirm this:
Using standard WWi techniques you can not retrieve the "graphics" from "ABAP" location (I am not aware of any function module etc. supporting this option) . BUt you can create a new symbol which then might be able to retreive the "graphics" from ABAP memory
We are using the classical option (local WWI location or gen server) and this does work. Never investigated to "read" the graphics file using SAP as the memory

Natalia,
You can change this behavior with a Environmental Parameter or with user parameter ESWWI_INST.
From the IMG Documentation:
Using this environment parameter you can specify where reports are generated for display.
The following values are available:
Note
The value of the environment parameter is only read if no value is entered in the user parameter ESWWI_INST. ESWWI_INST automatically contains a value as soon as the first report is generated or displayed.

Hi James,
Thanks for your answer.
We have the parameter with the value: "WWISERVER".
We didn't know the full functionallity or the full undestanding of the features of WWI. Transaction CG42 works with local Word to edit report templates and preview a report. The environment parameter "WWI_INSTALLATION" has no influence on transaction CG42.
This last two sentences, we have learned from another source.
But we don't know how to leave the "Graphics" folder in a central position so that the rest of the user can leave their images in the same place, and not to have to talk other users update their own "Graphics" folder to have the same content.
As i said, we have the value: "WWISERVER", but the link to the "Graphics" folder located in the server is not fixed.
Could you continue help me with this?
Hello
you misunderstood may be here the WWI concept. Let us try it step by step
1.) to use CG42: you must have a local WWI installation and the graphic files are located locally (any WWI set up for any WWi developer must be the same !)
2.) For the end user you have two options
a.) any end user is getting a local WWI installation with a local graphic folder (any WWI set up must be the same, No difference allowed)
b.) or you prepare a "WWI farm" (as server architecture). Any WWI installation must be prepared the same (graphics folder must have the sameplace etc.)
this "must" topic (any WWI installaiton must be the sam, same structure etc.) avoid afterwork in the local WWI installation (or the WWI gen server installation)
Up to now. I have never get in touch with somebody using the last option but this is possible (not sure if you have to switch something (as this option is delivered with an "Enhancement Package)
So you must split the users in more or less two groups
a.) developers (using CG42)
b.) end users
if you would like to use the "gen server" concept
According to my knowledge: this WWI server is of type "synchron". The load balancing is done in the "RFC" area.
Now clue how may WWI machines / instances you need to set up. Let us imagine this:
you have 300 EHS users (in the whole world distributed): so based on time zone. may be 100 of them would like to use CG54/CG50 etc. to display a WWI document. But clearly not all of them at the same time
So this "central set up" is helpful as you avoid to do a local roll ouf of WWI . You can update e.g. graphics folder than "globally" in one set up. I do not assume that you need many WWI boxes/services (referring to the example of the 300 users). But just try.
Hope this helps

PS: there are lot of threads discusisng correct WWI set up; but not for your case (or only partial overlap)

pps. REGARDING "As i said, we have the value: "WWISERVER", but the link to the "Graphics" folder located in the server is not fixed":
This is your issue any WWI server/instance must have the same set up (graphic folder on same level). No deviation is possible. So the location of the "graphic" folder must be fixed
