BOMBOS - Alternative BOMs, different BOM per plant...

Hi Experts,

Are any of you aware of some way to handle different BOMs per plant and alternative BOMs, so that the composition of the substance linked to the material is not overwriten everytime a new BOM enters the worklist in CG37?

For example, some way to create different instances in the composition to manage the different alternatives? Or different substances for different plant BOMs...

Any help will be welcome.

Thanks and regards,

Irene

Hello Irene,

There can be two ways to handle it , if I have understood your question correctly.

1. You may wish to create versions of the BOM's in case you don't want the composition of the substance linked to the material to be overwriten everytime a new BOM enters the worklist in CG37. Here, you may change the substance (i.e material) with new composition without afftecting the rest of the structure. This can be done through SAP engg. change management (ECM). Please refer to t-code CC31 or CC01.

2. Secondly, if you wish to have plant/site dependent BOM or composition of a material to be manitained, you can use another SAP component i.e Recipe management which is very well integrated with substance of the SAP EHS. Here, you can maintain plant/site dependent master recipes or composition formulas. Please refer to the following help link:

Hope the information is usefull.

Hello,

Thanks both of you for your answers.

Jayakumar, we are not using SRC, we wanted to handle this from the EHS BOMBOS functionality. Can you think of a way to do it without CfP?

Pavan, regarding you first point. ECM would help us to maintain different versions of a BOM, through time. But, how to handle different alternatives of the same BOM (same material, same plant) at the same moment of time? - In the standard BOMBOS functionality, all the plant BOMs and alll the alternatives for a BOM are linked to the same substance, and composition is overwritten with the last BOM that entered the CG37 worklist...

regarding your second point, I´m not very familiar with RM. Is there integration between spec management in EHS and RM? Any way to transfer the composition in EHS to the Recipe?

Thanks again.

Hi Irene,

i don't know your exact purpose of this particular requirement, but nevertheless I believe that Recipe management should solve it if you are doing some EH&S centric project. Let me again try to answer you.

Yes, there is an in-built integration of RM with SAP EH&S. In your case whatever formulas you define for any material under a particular recipe is being realized in SAP EH&S as specifications of category "Formula" and are grouped according to the formula type, that is, the specification type. They comprise the following:

-->The formula master with the formula views

The formula views combine related data that is displayed together on one tab page in formula editing.

--> A master data enhancement in the form of value assignment types in the property tree for the formula

You enter data not included in the standard system in the value assignment for the formula in value assignment types.

Hence, you need not to transfer anything from RM to EH&S or vice-versa.

Whatever formula you create for a material, it gets assigned to the substance in EH&S. Now you can have different Site-recipes with relevant material formulations assigned. Further, you have the facility of "Formula Explosion" which is to some extent integrated with logistics.

Above all holds valid in case of a process industry where batch manufacturing happens like pharma, speciality chemicals and to some extent to chemicals industry at large.

Hope, above gives you enough clarity and confidence to further explore RM to be able to fit your exact requirement.

Pavan,

Thanks a lot for the extensive reply, I understand RM would be the best way to handle different formulas for the different plants or factory sites... we were just wondering if there was some way of doing this through the BOMBOS functionality, since the BOM transfer is automatical.

In RM, the formulas have to be created and maintained manually... right? Or is there a way to create the formulas automatically from the production BOM? or from the composition in EHS?

Thanks again.

Pavan,

Just another question... even if we use RM, we would need to manage the products and its components in specification management in EHS, right? Before creating the formula...

Thanks!!

Hello Irene

(only as an addon to what has been explained/discussed to far): EH&S is used in the background if you would like to use SAP RM. Therefore answer to your question in my opinion is: yes (you manage materials and compositions in EH&S; the compostion because not of the fact you are using SAP RM but because of other reasons. To my knowledge a further license fee is required to use SAP RM.

May be Note 140415 could be of interest too. I found it by accident. It explains that you can only EHS standard BOMBOS or SRC/SPRC BOMBOS but not both at the same time.

Regarding BOMBOS generally: a number of threads in this FORUM deals with this topic; a "cross read" might help: these threads deal with problems in BOMBOS interface etc.

To my knowledge the functionality of the SRC/SPRC BOMBOS is in some sense "bigger" than standard BOMBOS EH&S (you can do more..)

With best regards

C.B.

Hello

You can use Validity to handle and distingusih the different variants in the composition propertty of the product. Please refer SRC documentation (CfP Section - Product Variant) for more information.

Thanks

Hello Jayakumar,

How can we populate the product variants (e.g. BOM Usage) in to product structure of Compliance Workbench? Is it through Normalization variant? If yes the whats the Normalization Variant?

Thanks in advance!!

Hello Mayur,

Can you share what setting did you make in Specify Product Variants.to make this work. Any help is appreciated .
