Hello,
I need help with a business requirement to change the company code and plant. We need to transfer all functional locations and equipment to new plants. All functional locations will have new labels with the same structure indicator.
My concerns:
I plan to activate alternative labeling to change functional location labels. What impact will this have on all master data associated with the functional locations (equipment, maintenance plans, task lists, etc.) and on system operations and reporting?
Is there a solution for mass changing new labels and company codes?
Thanks!
IMHO teh aspects of mass changing Company code and Plant are completely unrelated to the question relating to alternative labelling (AL) for functional locations (FL).
Please check corresponding doc and notes for AL.
When activating it newly created FLs will have an internal ID (TPLNR '?nnnnnn...nnn') and the label will be stored in a filed STRNO. For existing FLs the TPLNR will not change from the 'readable' representation - but corresponding label might change over time.
Thus no impact on other areas referencing the FLs.
For mass change options please check mass change funcitonalities in the list reports for FLs.
For mass changing FL labels you will most probably have to call some FL API (BAPI, Odata service) in order to determine the new label individually.

In addition on the comments of Manfred,
Check if you have setup the inheritance of data in the Floc's or maintain the organizational data individual. But this could effect your mass change process. If the inheritance is on then you could change the top level and changes are passed to the lower Flocs until it is maintained individual. Be aware of any record locks in the process.
Also i believe it is not possible to change the label of a Floc in the same structure indicator in one go. So you will probably need to change to another structure indicator with the same mask or change to a dummy before making the final change.
Hope this helps
