Visibility of custom fields for end users

There is a way to make custom fields of the item entity visible for the end users?

@lilymar, as I understand the question, this option isn't currently available. There were some enhancement requests related to it, which were closed due to lack of votes (sample). Still, it's possible to open a new one, so it can be voted by who'd like to have it (KBA 2090228).
