Hello Compensation Gurus,
I hope you're all doing well! I’ve been following your insightful posts for quite some time and have gained a wealth of knowledge from your contributions on Compensation & Variable Pay. I truly appreciate the value this community provides, and I’m reaching out today for some expert advice.
I am an EC consultant, and I’ve recently started working on a project involving Variable Pay. Since this is my first hands-on experience in this area, I have a couple of questions and would be really grateful for your insights.
Bonus Calculation for Different Employee Populations
The client I’m working with has two employee groups: one hourly-paid and the other bi-weekly salaried. For the salaried population, the client wants to use the annual salary for bonus calculation. For the hourly population, they’d like to use a custom field to import a reference salary in EC, which would then be used for bonus calculation.
Is it possible to achieve this in a single template where different salary data is used for these two groups? If so, I’d really appreciate any tips or best practices on how to implement this effectively.
Excluding Specific Leave Types from Bonus Calculation
The client has several leave event reasons, including Long-Term Disability (LTD) and Short-Term Disability (STD). They want to exclude LTD from the bonus calculation, but consider STD leave for up to 183 days for bonus eligibility.
Can this be handled via proration, or would another custom method (e.g., using a field to track eligibility) be more appropriate? Any advice on how to best approach this would be greatly appreciated.
I understand you all must be busy, but as I’m still building my hands-on experience with Variable Pay, I’d be extremely grateful for any guidance or suggestions you can share.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. Looking forward to learning from your collective expertise!
Best Regards
Request clarification before answering.
1/ It should be doable in standard this way (screenshot below), otherwise only define mapping to PayComp group and use employee history export/import feature (compatible with EC employee history processor) to load the earnings specifically for bi-weekly salary employees. You need to understand whether the "earnings" they want to load are already impacted by proration or not. See blog 1 and blog 2.
2/ Either add it to the main record eligibility rule that controls which records are retrieved. Or if they have Time Off driving changes in EC, then setup the workaround proposed here.
All the best
Xavier
