Publishing values to a recurring pay component from Variable Pay to EC

Hi,

could you please confirm if it is possible to publish a bonus payout from Variable Pay to a recurring pay component in Employee Central? I was able to add the necessary code to the XML without encountering any errors, but nothing appears in the UI. I'm unsure if this is due to a bug or if the functionality is not supported. Unfortunately, I cannot test this as we are working directly in the production environment.
Thank you for your help!

Hi @Laura1

Yes it is supported, I've never done it myself but I just found a conversation with a colleague where she said she was able to do it. Out of curiosity what is the business case ?

For her it was "to use CompInfo for Promotion Points assignment", not sure what it actually means to be honest.

The only "standard" business case I could think of is to have the Target Bonus % edited on VarPay summary level screens then sent back to a recurring paycomponent.

All the best

Xavier

Hi Xavier, This might be a bit complex, so thank you for your patience as I explain. 😊 The customer will use the Variable Pay form to calculate the bonus base for employees. Certain roles, such as Comp Ben or Admins, may make minor adjustments to the bonus base or perform some forecasting during this stage. Once finalized, the bonus base will be published to EC as a recurring pay component (BonusBase). Following that, we create a Total Compensation Plan form. Within the Salary tab of this form, merit, promotion, extra and lump sum (bonus) are calculated. For the lump sum target, I’ve mapped the bonus base pay (BonusBase) component from EC and configured the lump sum calculation to be based on this target. We also utilize guidelines and other standard funcionalities. This setup allows managers to handle everything on a single tab. For the Variable Pay tab within the Total Compensation Plan, it primarily serves as an informational section for managers. It provides them with details about the Variable Pay calculation, which they can review if needed. Please let me know if you need further clarification or have additional questions!

Laura, Does the Bonus Base need to be a recurring pay component. Because you are using it in the salary tab, there is no historical element involved, you are just taking a value as of the date you pull the data from EC. You could establish a non-recurring pay component and publish a value calculated in the summary line of the variable pay form and then pull the data from that pay component into the salary tab. The only downside is that you would need a PC like BonusBase2024 and then BonusBase2025, etc.

Yes, this will be the solution if there’s no possibility of publishing a recurring pay component from Variable Pay. However, I still haven’t received a response from SAP Support, so we’ll see how it goes.

Hi, I tested this in a different environment. I added the code (with the recurring pay component) to the XML, but it didn’t appear in the UI, meaning you can’t adjust the date directly through the UI. However, after publishing, it successfully published to EC without errors. So, it is possible to publish a recurring pay component from Variable Pay to EC. It just won’t appear in the UI, and you’ll need to manage it through Provisioning (Effective Date & Event Reason).
