New to CIS (Cloud Identity Services). My understanding is that both IAS (Identity Authentication Service) and IPS (Identity Provisioning Service) are available in CIS. Is it possible to use only the IPS portion of CIS or do you have to make use of both IPS and IAS (for authentication) when using CIS?

Once you have SAP CIS (Cloud identity Services) you will have both IAS and IPS.
To depends on your use case for using IAS and IPS.
IPS is mainly used for syncing users from one environment to another environment with providing approriate access to the application(READ; WRITE) with assigning groups
IAS is mainly used for storing all users with approrirate groups and enabling Single Sign on for different SAP and Non SAP applications for those users. similarly to IAM solutions which is there in market.
