This article is intended for anyone who will be using the SAP Advanced SQL Migration tool. This tool is intended to be used by SQL specialists who are familiar with the SQL language.
Migration tool users will need to be skilled in the syntax and semantics of the SQL dialects of both the source DBMS and target DBMS of the migration. In particular, knowledge is required of server-side SQL constructs (e.g. stored procedures) and the corresponding SQL flavours (e.g. Oracle PL/SQL, SAP Hana SQLScript)
SAP Advanced SQL Migration is an SAP-provided tool to assist with migrating custom (non-SAP)
applications, especially those using server-side SQL stored procedures, functions, etc., from a non-SAP database to an SAP database
This migration tool aims to make migration projects more manageable by assisting consultants/developers with:
• Automatically performing as much of the 'simple' conversion work as possible.
• Providing insight in the areas where additional manual intervention is required.
Before using SAP Advanced SQL Migration, ensure that all stakeholders are aware of the legal requirements and restrictions on the use of the migration tool, such as the terms of use. In addition, ensure that the owner of intellectual property rights to the application being migrated, has authorized the migration being performed. When the migration tool connects directly to a non-SAP source DBMS system, ensure that this is compliant with the applicable license terms governing that DBMS system. |

Prerequisites for Installation
This video shows a live-recorded demo of migrating a custom (non-SAP) database application from Oracle to SAP HANA. The migration is performed using the SAP Advanced SQL Migration tool, which converts the Oracle SQL dialect to the SAP HANA SQL dialect. In this demo, the conversion of schema and PL/SQL objects (procedures, functions, packages) is 100% automatic and correct.
Convert Oracle-to-SAP HANA with Advanced SQL Migration Tool
With all the advancements found in the Advanced SQL Migration tool, it is now simple to get such migration. It happens usually with a click of the mouse. The idea is to carry out multiple processes bundled into a single task. But the beauty of the tool is also the possibility of selecting particular database type to be migrated. |
