Hi,
Our ACCOUNT dimension is used by two applications having different set of dimensions. Some account formula are referring to members from the ACCTDETAIL dimensions that does not belong to the second application sharing the ACCOUNT dimension. When we process the ACCOUNT dimension, it fails due to these members. What's the work-around?
Thanks,
Regis
Regis,
You may already know this, but You can do following.
1 - Split the account dimension
2 - Make sure you have everything you need within the same app for your formulas to work.
pro
To have everything in to one dimension, You will remove duplication of maintance and work.
You Will proces both Apps at the same time.
Cons
For one things you will have the problems you are having now.
You will have to store lot of things into same dimesnion that may not be used in both apps so users will have to shift thru lot of things.
You Will take both Apps down when you process the dimension.
If you split the dimensions, you will need to make sure you have a good backup and you have a way to bring your data back.
Hople this helps.

Thanks Sam,
Very clear answer. I actually did not plan to split the ACCOUNT dimension but that looks like the most appropriate alternative. Besides, it'll make the ACCOUNT dimension in the second application cleaner and less confusing for users (it's a detail application where there is no real need for ratios, assumptions members... that currently clutter the ACCOUNT dimension).
Thanks, I really appreciate your detailed answer.
Regis
Hi Sam,
That's right unless accounts are organized neatly which we strive to do. Having all main dimensions in our detail application would be too confusing for users while adding new accounts in two dimensions won't be dramatic for the administrator. So when evaluating pros and cons, I think the dual dimension approach is still better.
Thanks,
Regis
Regis,
As I know, you can't include that dimemsion member that is not a part of the cube.
I need to consider change cube structure.
Thanks
