Hi Friends,

We recently upgraded from BPC 10.1 SP8 to BPC 10.1 SP11.As apart of the embedded model, we are planning to use the Launch Consolidation planning function for our consolidation model which was on standard earlier.

We created the following.

1) Created an composite provider on top of ADSO(Direct update) and on a calculation view.

2) Created an aggregation level on top of the composite provider.

3) Created filter and planning function of type : Launch Consolidation logic.

4) Created the planning sequence and executed the planning sequence and we are getting an error message as like below.

Please let me know if we miss on any thing here.

Hi Rajesh,

1 As I mentioned, the feature comes with note 2476459; but - of course - this is not for end users but only for testing.

2 I think the normal way to use this functionality is to use an already existing AO workbook and then this is not issue. The technical problem behind this is that the BPC Environment, BPC Model information has to be set at the very beginning in the user session. In an existing session to much stuff was already instantiated and to inject BPC Environment, BPC Model information later is not possible. You may check most recent versions of AO, whether there exist the option to set environment/model already when the workbook is created (in the Select Data Source pop-up).

Gregor

Hi Lucas,

Thanks for the info you have provided above. I have a similar requirement in RTC, I want to schedule running of Eliminations & Adjustments BRule as a daily job. I was trying to create a planning function, a planning sequence followed by a process chain to execute the sequence. Is that approach right or is there another way of achieving the daily execution?

When i created a planning function, it did not show fields for Environment & Model selection (screenshot attached for what i have vs what i want). I have checked the SAP Note 2476459 and it is not applicable to my system. My System is S/4 H 1709 with BW 752 SP01. I have seen the model and environment available as a field in the planning function with someone i know, but unfortunately i am not able to reach out to him. Its an urgent issue for me and am looking forward to your help.

Regards,
Alpna

Go through this doc. and you will be able to execute the consolidation rule from RSPLAN:

To execute the consolidation logic from via RSPLAN you will need create a new Function Type and Implementation Class (Copying the standard) to set the BPC Environment and Model.

I've created a how-to, it is under review, will share it here, if you interested.

Hi Gregor,

Thank you for your time. At first we tried to execute it in RSPLAN and later saw the SAP Note : 2379229 and used analysis for office.

Strange thing is even after we setting the Planning Model( Select the appropriate Model and Environment) and planning function, we still have same issues. As a work around, we saved the analysis work in netweaver platform with Environment and Model ,Closed it and opened from the netweaver platform and executed the planning function and then it worked.

Now I have the following concerns .

1) Is like we cannot execute Launch Consolidation Logic from RSPLAN?.

2)If we only have AO to execute this planning function, why cannot we execute it at the first time?. Is there anything missing from side.

Rajesh Majeti.

Just out of curiosity, what's the name of the environment?

Hi Sid,

have you used transaction RSPLAN to execute the planning feature? This transaction knows nothing about BPC Environment, BPC Model. You need note 2476459. In Analysis Office you have to set BPC Environment/BPC Model in the workbook, then you can execute your planning function. Check also note 2379229 to get more information about this topic.

Hi Gregor in this case your affirmation is just not true.

The planning function Sid is trying to execute is a planning function that will trigger a business rule execution in BPC. As you're aware data manager packages are not available in embedded anymore and the planning function above kind of replaces that.

Hi Lucas,

I don't understand your comment since I did not mention data manager packages at all. The only thing I mentioned is that in BPC Embedded the consolidation functionality is wrapped into to planning function. But RSPLAN has no information about BPC stuff without the above mentioned note (in case RSPLAN was used at all).

What I meant is that is not true that the planning function does not interact with BPC.

You statement with 'interact' is a little bit general: of course planning functions interact with BPC Embedded since these objects are part of the used planning engine. What I said is that in RSPLAN planning functions don't know about BPC Environment and BPC Model to be used, so e.g. BPC work status settings cannot be interpreted at all.

In other words: without BPC Environment, BPC Model information available at run time planning functions and input-ready queries work exactly as in BW-IP (PAK), since technically it is BW-IP (PAK).

Well if we go with the same line of thinking you're being a little bit general when you say "RSPLAN planning functions don't know about BPC...". Planning functions are based in ABAP and in the code you can make the planning function refer to any other module, including BPC. Dynamically or not.

I talk about standard planning functions, not about exit implementations. In the run time objects BPC Environment, BPC Model have to be set at the very beginning of the user session in the so called OLAP area class: CL_RSR_OLAP_AREA. All other techniques will not work in general. The OLAP area is the technical representation of the 'container' I talk about in the blog:

Ok, now I agree - Standard planning functions, not planning functions in general.

Great blog by the way.
