Hi Everyone,

SAP Profitability and Performance Management 3.0 will be wrapping up 2020 with another support package (SP12) that we can all expect on December 22, 2020.

The Support Package is to deliver enhancements for Visual Modeler and several Modeling Functions. Aside from these enhancements, SP12 also is to introduce four (4) new sample contents, one (1) new fixed content and lastly a new modeling function called "Condition".

If you are interested to know more about them, read further as i am now about to give more information about these functionalities.

Visual Modeler

SAP Profitability and Performance Management's Visual Modeler SP12 can be identified into at least four (4) main screens where you can expect three (3) screens to still be on display mode, and one major screen which is editable has been enhanced for better reporting experience.

  • Environment Screen (Read-Only)

  • Modeling Screen (Read-Only)

  • Process Management Screen (Read-Only)

  • Visualize/Report Management Screen (Editable)

In case you are on a lower version and would still want to experience to use the offered SP12 functionalities, please implement below notes.

These notes have equivalent blog posts too prepared by my colleagues to better inform you of what the notes are for.

In addition to above functionalities that we can all enjoy and use by applying the notes mentioned, there is one specific enhancement which is a new chart type called "Sheet" for Visualize and Report Management Screen that has not been part yet of any note released and can only be used upon patching to SP12.

The idea of this new chart type is to be able to update existing datarecords without too much of a difference if you are to use a microsoft excel application.

It is possible to add rows (data records) or even columns (fields)

it is also possible to use formula (simple and complex) instead of just use fixed value when maintaining a datarecord cell

Environment Enhancements

Upon report creation, editing, or copying ; a newly introduced field called User Group has been added to restrict a specific report to only be seen and launched by assigned group of people.

Please take note that creation of the group to be assigned on this field must be done by your security expert via transaction code SUGR and it must not be expected that the group will be created in the My Reports screen.

Functions SP12

Allocation Function

The iteration feature is now enabled also for the simple allocation type.

In the previous support packages the iteration option was only available for allocation types with offset.

Condition Function

A new Condition function has been introduced to have a more optimized execution process.

Previously the procedures of each interim functions are being executed in order to reach a final result even if the function is not fully necessary to be executed for a specific scenario.

With SP12's Condition function, this mechanism can now change.

If the condition maintained in the rules tab is not met, all functions under the said condition function will be skipped during processing --- giving in the end a faster processing time

Like in the example below, if the parameter I_KF gets a value of 10, the whole function tree under the condition function starting with the View (1 VI) will be triggered. Otherwise, the function logic of the children functions will be skipped together with a corresponding message in the application log.

Calculation Unit: Dual Control

The email notification details for dual control has been enhanced. A notification will be sent to the respective user groups assigned in the dual control after an activity is

  • submitted

  • for approval

  • approved

  • rejected

Join Function

A new dialog box for complex selection is now available on the Input tab of the Join function. It enables you to define advanced selections using formulas and SQL functions to sophisticatedly filter datarecords before it is even used further in the rules tab of the Join.

Remote Function Adapter

Two new header fields are available for the Remote Function Adapter function type Financial Statement Items

  • Decimal Separator: Defines the separator to be used when reading datarecords into SAP Profitability and Performance Management

  • HTTP RFC Destination: Assign an RFC destination type “H” to assign a system's URL where data can then be pulled or read from.

View Function

You can now find the following new iteration types on the Advance tab of the View function:

  • Application Server For Loop

  • Application Server Reverse For Loop

Previous Support Packages already had delivered iteration types such as For Loop and For Loop Reverse which execute HANA stored procedures of an input function multiple times during function execution.

Unfortunately there are cases where these previous loop functionalities could not completely process input functions which have processing logic outside of the stored procedure, such as in a process chain. One good example of a possible input that should be used with this new types is Writer function that writes data to SAP BW.

This was the reason why two new types are to be introduced in SP12. These new application server iteration types can then handle execution of input function with the help of the application server.

Writer Function

there is no modeling changes that is visible on writer, the enhacement is more on performance. In SP12 memory consumption during writing process into Financial Product subledger or RDL has been improved. This will be helpful specially during mass datarecord storing into RDL.

Sample and Fixed Contents

Sample Content

These new contents can be expected after patching to SP12 and applying the proper piecelist mentioned in the administration guide.

Sample Content ID Version
Corporate Budgeting and Planning

Provides a combination of top-down and bottom-up approaches for creating budgets and plans. SAP Profitability and Performance Management can help you to define plans based on different input data, enable you to monitor the execution of plans at the lowest levels of granularity, and to calculate variances that compare actual and planned data.

Corporate Sustainability Management

Provides end-to-end calculation and a process model for corporate sustainability management. The sample content starts with survey-based data acquisition. You can upload data such as your company’s resource and energy consumption data, environmental data, or human capital and social data. The model aggregates this data and calculates a variety of environmental and social key performance indicators. It also provides a process template that you can use for validation and audit purposes, as well as a qualitative reporting template that allows you to visualize the result using a variety of charts and write descriptive texts to create reports for different stakeholders.

Product and Service Costing

Helps you with the detailed calculation of manufacturing costs and allocation of shared services so that you can calculate realistic unit prices per product. Companies apply specific markup rates to their customers in order to achieve target revenues. The system creates P&L statements with the final results that provide insight into performance and profitability at the level of all available business dimensions. Additional functions include flexible production decisions in the steering tables and variance analysis between actual and planned prices, quantities and unit costs.

Process Mining on S/4HANA – Credit Application

Provides an end-to-end process mining model for credit application. The origination process works with sensitive information which is exchanged between customers and banking professionals. Credit application data is coming from standard SAP tables in the area of Loans Management. The model discovers the actual credit application processes from input data and calculates standard and industry-specific key performance indicators for these processes. It also carries a qualitative reporting template which illustrates how users can visualize the result in a flexible way by a variety of charts and write descriptive texts to create reports for different stakeholders. Organizational goals can be kept in line through the process diagram, which offers better understanding of the process performance.

Fixed Content

Aside from the standalone content, Estimated Cashflow Preparation also is to release fix contents this Q4. Unlike the previous support packages that ECP only released one (1) content, this time the team wants to also offer to customers a new content called Estimated Cashflow Preparation - Lite

Sample Content ID Version
Estimated Cash Flow Preparation

The fixed content helps insurance companies fulfill the new requirements by bridging the gap between the actuarial department and the technical accounting subledger, bringing these two worlds closer together. It also reduces the complexity in the subledger by unifying the input from the life and health (L&H) and the property and casualty (P&C) lines of business into one best estimate cash flow format, which can be used as a basis for multi-GAAP accounting as well as cash flow reporting.

SFP C004
Estimated Cash Flow Preparation (ECP-Lite)

This fixed content helps you to produce best estimate cash flows and patterns based on assumptions and data provided by actuaries. This content is designed to remain GAAP-neutral as far as possible during this processing step, and to provide a GAAP-neutral cash flow projection as well as a GAAP-neutral exposure-based pattern that is ready to be processed through the subledger accounting processing steps

Now that all the functionalities were discussed, i want to wrap up my blog post by wishing all of you a wonderful holiday and happy SP12 patching!
