What should the MT940 with Structured Memo Line look like?

Hi Experts!

Can someone explain a bit what is the difference between MT940 and MT940 with Structured Memo Line (Format Mapping)?

And what is the difference between MT940 with Unstructured Memo Line and MT940 with Structured Memo Line?

Could you provide an example of how to prepare a test file to test these new functionalities?

This puzzles me because in previous releases I tested MT940 file and there was a memo line in the sub tag of the 86.

Hi Kamil,

The first three characters of tag :86: in MT940 file decides whether it is a structured or unstructured format. We call it as external transaction code.

• If the value of first three characters is 999, then it is MT940 unstructured format. System considers all the data of tag :86: as note to payee(memo line).
• If the value of first three characters is not equal to 999, then it is MT940 structured format. System considers sub tags from ?20 to ?27 as note to payee(memo line) from tag :86:

Thanks a lot, this is useful information for me.

I tried upload file with value 999 in the MT940 unstructured format. Problem is when I select this option in the Manage Incoming Payment Files app I get the error 'An error occurred during the mapping."

And similar problem when I'm trying to add with value for instance 166 in tag :86: and select file type MT940 with Structured Memo Line.
