In general negative testing means, checking a test with negative data/parameters so that the test should give errors. So that we can be satisfied that everything is in place.

Negative testing is generally carried out to check the users authorisation for carrying out different transactions. This is done to chk. the authorisation to carry out the transactions by the user. Generally Basis team will give the transaction code & user id to carry out the negative testing.
