What are some features of SAP: Service and Asset Manager that Fiori Apps for EAM can't provide?

I'm trying to pitch SAP: Service and Asset Manager to a client who currently has no exposure to mobility solutions for Plant Maintenance. The question that I always get asked is that why should we invest in SAP: SAM if Fiori Apps provide us the opportunity for working on the go?

So, are there any additional benefits of using SAP: SAM along with Fiori other than what I've listed below-

1. Native mobile capabilities- Camera for barcode scanning, taking and attaching photos directly to notifications/work orders, touch/face ID for hassle free login.

2. Geo location services (ESRI Maps)- Not useful for this particular client

3. A more user friendly UI than Fiori (for smartphone users)

Any inputs will be really helpful.

Hi Sanket,

Generally, as you noted, native applications provide some important benefits over web applications.

  • Better performance: Native mobile apps are built specifically for the device's operating system and hardware, so they can take full advantage of the device's features and provide faster and more responsive performance than web applications.
  • Access to device features: Native mobile apps can access a device's hardware features such as camera, GPS, accelerometer, and more, which is not always possible with web applications.
  • Better user experience: Native mobile apps can provide a more immersive and personalized user experience than web applications, with features such as offline access, push notifications, and gesture-based navigation.

Specific to SAP Service and Asset Manager, there are additional benefits.

  • Full online/offline capabilities: Users can continue to use the application even when they are not connected to the internet or have limited connectivity, whether they are in rural locations or remote areas of plants. An offline application can also reduce data usage and costs associated with network connectivity.
  • Complete backend interface only offered with SAP Service and Asset Manager: The Mobile Application Integration Framework (MAIF) comes with SAP Service and Asset Manager and provides a set of pre-built connectors and APIs that enable the exchange of data and processes between enterprise applications and mobile devices.
  • Configuration to define data distribution rules and delta data determination to minimize synchronization times: MAIF allows fine-tuned control to customers to meet specific business needs around the amount and types of data sent to the mobile device to improve the performance and usability of the mobile application and reduce the impact on network bandwidth and data usage.
  • Full client customization capability via the SAP Mobile Development Kit: The MDK provides a set of pre-built templates, components, and data binding options that can be used to create custom UI elements and workflows without requiring extensive coding knowledge. This allows developers to quickly and easily create custom apps that meet their specific requirements.
  • Native app extensions: The MDK provides ways to extend the functionality of the mobile application, including native app extensions for smart glasses, wearables, and other devices. Developers can use native SDKs to access device-specific functionality and features, such as sensors, camera, GPS, and other hardware components.
  • Ease of integration into SAP solutions: The default application includes functionality for multiple personas integrating with Plant Maintenance and Customer Service modules, SAP Field Service Management, SAP Asset Intelligence Network, and SAP Spatial Asset Management, and customers can extend the application to add functionality from other SAP solutions as needed.
  • Standard development support offering: Customers may access support through a variety of SAP programs like SAP Enterprise Support, SAP MaxAttention, SAP Solution Manager, SAP Community, and SAP Training ensuring that customers can maximize the value of the solution and minimize disruptions to their service and asset management operations.
  • Licensing of SAP Service and Asset Manager includes named user access to the backend system: Ensures that customers have the necessary licenses to access and use the features of the system without any additional licensing requirements.

Given the general and specific benefits of our mobile application, we believe our customers get the best performance and experience for their users in the field.

Thank you for your question.

can you confirm if a separate license is required for using SAP Service and Asset Manager? If I have SAP S/4 HANA named user license, can I access SAP Service and Asset Manager free of cost?
