Upgrade from 4.6B/4.6D Kernel to ECC6 on Windows 2003

Hi,

We are planning to upgrade the SAP 4.6B production system to ECC6 and we seek

your support to find the answers for some of the doubts that we have at

this moment.

1) Can we straightaway upgrade the existing version (4.6B/Kernel 4.6D) to ECC6 on Windows 2003 ?

We are on 4.6B with Kernel 4.6D on windows 2000 with SQL Server 2000 right now.

Our concern is ECC 6 does not support on windows 2000 and 4.6B does not

support on windows 2003 therefore do we have to first upgrade the

system to ECC5/Windows 2000 and then ECC5/Windows2003 to ECC6 ?

2) Note 156558 - Released SAP Kernel 4.6x MS SQL Server operat.

sys.

The above OSS note says 4.6B/4.6D kernel supports on windows 2003 32BIT3. What exactly you mean by u201C32 BIT 3u201D?

Appreciate if you can kindly help us to get those doubts clarified Thank you in advance.

Hi Holger

You are right but my concern is this "32BIT 3"

MS SQL SERVER 2000 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA32 32BIT 3

Please check the screen shot you have pasted and that's the same problem I'm also having.

What exactly they mean by 32 BIT 1, 2 and 3 ?

Windows 2003 supports only with 32BIT 3 what is this "3" ?

Hello Kushan,

I don't understand the callback, the answer is in my last posting:

The numbers are explained after that:

1. This is relevant mainly for APO 2.0A, which instead should be run on MSSQL7.
2. At least Service Pack 1 for Windows 2000 must be installed.
3. SAP Business One supports both the SQL Server Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition

You have 3:

3. SAP Business One supports both the SQL Server Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition

The numbers are simple footnotes.

Holger

Hello Kushan,

AFAIK the SAP release (4.6B) isn't the real thing, only the kernel is relevant in this case.

So if you have the AKK 4.6D everything should be fine.

Thats from note 156558:

Operating System: WINDOWS FOR X86

SAP KERNEL 4.6D 32-BIT:
MS SQL SERVER 2000 WINDOWS SERVER 2000/IA32 32BIT 1,2,3
MS SQL SERVER 2000 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA32 32BIT 3
MS SQL SERVER 2005 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA32 32BIT 3

SAP KERNEL 4.6D_EX2 32-BIT:
MS SQL SERVER 2000 WINDOWS SERVER 2000/IA32 32BIT 3
MS SQL SERVER 2000 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA32 32BIT 3
MS SQL SERVER 2005 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA32 32BIT 3

The numbers are explained after that:

1. This is relevant mainly for APO 2.0A, which instead should be run on MSSQL7.
      2. At least Service Pack 1 for Windows 2000 must be installed.
      3. SAP Business One supports both the SQL Server Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition

That should be possible:

1) Install latest 4.6D-Kernel

2) Upgrade Windows 2000 => Windows 2003

3) Upgrade SQL 2000 => SQL 2005

4) Upgrade 4.6B => ERP 6.0

Hello Imre,

in PAM for "SAP ERP 6.0" on tab "database platform" -> "SAP ECC server" you will see that only Windows 2003 is supported on x32.

SQL Server 2000 is available for x32 too, but not on x64.

On which tab you are?

Additionally in the installation guide are the following:

Requirements Checklist for a Central System

One of the following SQL Server Enterprise Edition server software:
- MS SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition: Server Software
- MS SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition: Server Software

English international version of one of the following:
- Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
- Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
- Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition

No Windows Server 2000
