hi all,

The main idea of SERIAL nos implementation is for traceability or for indiviadual identification of items for materials as our GURUS explained.

the exact use of the serial nos could aslo be defined as per required application,e/g GR or GI or SALES order etcc etc

a)The main setting for this would be to assign a SERIAL No profile in WOrkscheduling view of material master.

b) In SPRO you define it in PLANT maintennace,OIS2

here you upadte the serial no profile you require along with the serialising procedure

Note : it is in serialising procedure that you define the actual controls for your profile

Hi,

Sreial Number Profiles are at client level and is assigned to material in work scheduling view.System automatically generate the serial number during GR/GI based on your requirement. For eg in Production during production of each part if u want to give serial number then assign the profile for the material. So when ever u create production order automatically system will generate serial number and will be displayed on Production Order.

Serial Profiles can be created by using tcode OIS2. Alpha Nemerails are also possible.

Serial number profile is assigned in the material master for the material, while doing any transaction you have to first give the serial number for the material.

serial number profile:

Combined data, grouped in a four-figure abbreviation, that determines the conditions and business transactions for issuing serial numbers to serialized materials.

You must enter the serial number profile in the material master record for materials that need serial numbers.

A material can only be assigned serial numbers after the required serial number profile has been entered in the material master for a specific plant.

Serial number management allows you to distinguish between individual items of a material that are managed with a single material number.

You define your control profile in OIS2.

the serial number profile defines 1. you want todefine your own sl.no profile depends on requirements either serial number assignment while GI or GR

2. you may define your own sl.no. profile for the requirements to be define in configuration

3. you may define your own serial number profile in Plant maintenace configuration with the requirements to be defined

you may assign your own defined serial number profile in Work scheduling view while creation of material master data

while you are going to release production order you may define your own serial numbers with alpha or non neumeric values as well
