Hi all,

Rise(Private edition) have HANA HA(system replication) by default? or SAP just talk about SLA?

Because when we login to customer Rise production system, we cannot check any HANA HA(system replication) setting & status

thanks

Hi John,

The short answer is yes, it does.

I have supported over 30 customers in ECS, now referred to as "RISE with SAP," and implementing High Availability (HA) for every HANA database has always been essential.

Since customers can choose their preferred hyperscaler, like Azure, there is an inherent feature called auto recovery after failure, which serves as the first layer of protection:

"The Azure platform is designed to handle host node issues with minimal impact on VM performance. When a host node encounters a problem, Azure first attempts the least disruptive recovery method, which is to reboot the host. If rebooting the host isn't possible or if the original issue is hardware-related, the platform service heals all VMs on the affected host to a healthy node."

Once this step is passed with no positive result, the HA configuration kicks off to ensure system continuity. If the customer has also purchased a Disaster Recovery (DR) solution, it provides a further layer of protection as the next step in the process.

To my knowledge, HA is the standard choice for production environments only in RISE, while DR is an optional component that can be included in the Bill of Materials (BOM). For non-production environments, additional agreement may be necessary, depending on cost considerations to have the DR.

Please reach out to your Customer Delivery Manager (CDM) or Technical Service Manager (TSM) in RISE for more detailed information.

Thanks,
