Hi Gurus,
I am unable to set revenue recognition for item categories as the fields are greyed out. Please help me with relevant settings and configuration.

Dude, Jude is correct, you need an approval from SAP to enable Revenue Recognition, search through OSS for the note on this procedure

In my view. SAP controls this and if you want t change the revenue recognition criteria you need to take the prior approval of SAP and they will then provide the key with which you can change it. SAP sets revenue recognition criteria based on the requirement. IN the case of a project they set it to time related and in all other cases standard.
Please don;t touch this without understading the implications.
